Columbia Biomedical Engineering Masters

Does anyone have any tips on applying to Columbia for a biomedical engineering masters ? I have had three undergraduate semesters at Cornell so far, two of which I did really well and one of which I bombed due to health reasons. I’m wondering what counts into the GPA that is considered for admissions, what kinds of extracurriculars I should be doing, and any other suggestions.

If I understand you correctly, you have finished 3 (maybe 4) semesters of undergraduate work so far. One bad semester will not be a problem if you recover and do very well in the next few semesters before applying to the graduate program. One of the best things you can do is to get some research experience. Other extracurriculars will not be important for a graduate application. The research experience can do two important things for your application. The first is the experience itself, which is important, the second is to get a strong letter of reference from your research mentor (assuming you do a good job).
