Hey guys, is there anyone applying to SEAS applied physics major? I am a international student and I think engineering physics will be easier for me.
And by the way, has anyone (international student) received the “International Admissions” email? The promotional email about 7 great features of NYC. I asked some students who applied to Columbia last year and they told me that this email does mean something, and students who received it were all deferred

However, you probably didn’t ask a lot of students, right l? It’s completely possible that it’s a coincidence.

@MahlerGustav I’m an international applicant too and I got that email at the beginning of October way before I submitted my application so I doubt it says anything about your admission decision
Ayyyyy I didn’t get the “Int Admissions” email and I’m from Korea. Could mean they rejected me tho. if it has a meaning.

Not rejecting you necessarily; can be admitting you either lol. I am from mainland china and I’ve heard that it would be easier for Asian to get in an engineering college )
Btw, may I know your scores or ECs? I studied Physics Olympiad and got 2250 in SAT (though not a big shot)
I got 2390 SAT, and made it into AIME from AMC12 but didn’t make it to USAMO (didn’t think about USAMO anyway).
Wow I decided to study abroad two month ago… AIME is highly valued by engineering schools, and I am sure you are admitted since last year one of my former students got in Columbia SEAS RD because he participated in HMMT and got a high point in AMC. He only got 2240 SAT though.
USAMO will make you MIT or Caltech lol.
I’m from Korea, so other people may have better scores than me (idk how I did decently in the AIME, since I barely made it to AIME with my AMC12 lol). Thanks for your encouragement though.

Haven’t heard anything from my friend, but she’s applying for the College (not engineering like me).
I am not sure what those emails mean… But I know 2 students got in ED and didn’t receive those emails, and 1 student deferred and got an email. You say you received an email on Oct? That maybe another one lol.
The only emails I got from Columbia were the account thing to check your status and the announcement that results would come out on December 7th (Eastern time)
I just feel that it is weird to send an promotional email to an ED student 5 days before the decision released. I am sure that all decisions have already been made and they are just preparing for the release now. All applicants are divided to 3 pools (ad, rej and def) and they are going to send emails to them. It’s plausible that they send a promotional email to deferred applicants, and it’s not very reasonable for them to send to accepted or rejected applicants… I heard from a former graduate that they also discussed the email issue last year and there actually was some relationship between emails and results… I am just speculating …

Hey guys I am not intimidating you : ) , and in fact I myself received the email… I am just showing a kind of speculation and attract more international students to discuss and clarify the issue. I am super anxious now… Hopefully it’s not true lol
