Columbia Class of 2020 ED Applicant Thread

@fizzing @valerieholland @wherevioletsgrow thanks for the feedback and congrats!

So, I emailed the college admission counselor and he said that a bad GPA can be made up with a high test score. If you read a diverse amount of books, watch a diverse pool of movies, and create good responses that make your perspective different than others, you will get in. Work Hard Guys!!

can non fine arts majors submit a visual arts supplement?

Lol I have to remind myself sometimes that I actually got in to Columbia. Damn I wish I recorded my reaction. I kept telling myself I probably got rejected and didn’t want my dream college rejection on video…LOL.

But this still kinda leaves the curiosity of what other colleges may have accepted me. I was going to apply to about 15-17 other colleges (including all other ivies). But honestly, there is literally no college in this world I’d rather go to than Columbia. It’s been a dream for so long. I still can’t believe. It felt so far away this whole time and now it’s so close it feels kind of unreal. Haha, I used to read the Columbia decision results thread a lot and was completely blown away by the amount of amazing people that were rejected. Congrats to everyone that got in!!!

Does a defer mean a rejection specifically for Columbia? I hear that with higher schools, a defer essentially translates to a rejection.

There are some students at every college who are accepted after a deferral. The question really is where you stand in the deferred pile. At some schools that’s harder to know than others. I think UCHICAGO defers almost all early apps that they don’t accept; don’t know what Columbia does. Here’s an article on deferrals in general.

for those who were deferred like yours truly back in november, please don’t stress too much. the deferral was a blessing in disguise for me. got accepted at mit for engineering RD!

you never know what’s going to happen in this crazy process. your biggest, brightest dreams might just come true; mit seemed so impossible and now it’s happened.

best of luck to those receiving decisions over the next few weeks!

@Pinguman123 Winning after a deferral is not impossible. Universities do that for various reasons however what they really mean is that they need something more to make your application a success. I hope those that are deferred have written to the university and told them all about how they are their first choice and what they have been up to since applying in November. Universities are happy to accept updates in Jan and Feb for students that were deferred and do want to see your enthusiasm and passion to attend their school and more importantly that you didn’t get a form of senioritis and dropped the game post application. And the same goes for wait-listed students. To Win a wait list at an Ivy is also possible, you can do a lot to keep yourself in the running and on top of the pile. Anyone can message me in case you need some help.

@IviesRus Thanks for the helpful tips. It stinks that Columbia thought otherwise for my RD hours ago lol.
