This is the official discussion thread for Columbia Class of 2029 RD applicants. Ask your questions and connect with fellow applicants.
Just jumping on here so I get notified if anyone writes anything here. Good luck everyone!
What can I do after submission of the common app to increase my acceptance rate or to give more information about me to Columbia University? (I think I screwed up supplementals a bit)
You can send in an update of new achievements such as National Merit Finalist, etc. I recommend limiting these updates so as not to annoy the admissions officers though.
I don’t know that I would consider NMF on its own worth bugging them with an update. ~95% of semifinalists become finalists. For the most part SF gets you credit for finalist in application reviews. If you have something that is likely to make you one of the unfortunate 5% they likely will see it elsewhere in your app – low grades, way off SAT/ACT score, record of disciplinary action, etc. If there’s more of an update and you tack on NMF, that seems fine… But to each their own. It probably doesn’t hurt you either way.
Did anyone have a change in their financial aid portal status dates?
It seems like most applicants got the ERM email by accident, but I didn’t… is this a bad sign they’ve rejected me?
uhh ofc not, a bunch of my junior friends got that email from Columbia
nope? sorry for the delay. but in this portal?: (Columbia University) Student Log In
Yes, did the status dates change for your documents in the fin aid portal
I did not get it either. Though many who applied did. I wonder what was the source of the mail list which they sent the email to?
so far everyone i know who got columbia likely letter didnt receive it. I guess it means they already came to a decision for us
Nope. It looks exactly the same as it used to..but maybe I’m looking in the wrong place. I went to “Documents & Messages”. That’s the only place I see dates, too.
I didn’t get one, and I’m pretty sure I’m not getting in–so…yeah.
What dates do you see?
What about other applicants without a likely did they get it? Like a majority or minority?
Hey you never know!
Yeah you are looking in the right place.
When were these docs available through idoc? And how many of these have a big diff in dates as compared to the normal columbia processing time of 4-8 days
