How many are waitlisted and how many get out of waitlist in a typical year
i got in! after likely letter! i also was selected as a columbia scholar in the undergraduate scholars program!

Did the ERM email thing work? I did not receive an ERM email and was accepted without a likely letter. I am wondering how it is for others.
Not really, no erm email + waitlisted. Though others that I know who did received ERM all got rejected
no erm email, changes to scholarship date, still rejected 
Not receiving it probably meant that they already made a decision at that time, whether that’s rejection, waitlist, or acceptance (I think)

No one here is going to know. The only ones who do are Columbia AOs and they won’t comment here.
There is speculation by some people that the WL will move more this year because of students (or their parents) scared off by the various negative attention Columbia is getting – protests, school’s response to the protests, Trump funding attack, school’s response to that, the ICE arrests, etc. That is possible.
But note that there was similar speculation last year that the encampment, arrests and media attention would do the same and it didn’t have an impact on the yield then at all (and the yield is the only evidence we have since Columbia does not publish their exact waitlist numbers). Additionally, Columbia to has made offers to ~10% more students than the prior year (that they do publish) for a class size target that hasn’t changed. So they appear to have anticipated some impact from the above and built a buffer into their initial offers. For the waitlist to meaningfully move it will have to exceed that.
