Hi all,
Can anyone speak to the competitiveness of the Columbia Combined program or even its acceptance rate for applicants attending affiliated schools?
Have you or do you know anyone that has been accepted despite falling short of the requirements Columbia outlines on the combined plan website?
(Requirements are 3.3+ GPA, 3.3+ Engineering curriculum GPA, completion of a number of prerequisite science and mathematics courses, and a grade of at least a B (3.0) or higher on the first attempt of all the prerequisite coursework)
I am currently a Junior at one of the schools affiliated with Columbia and intend to apply in the Spring despite falling short of some of the key requirements.
While my GPA is not a concern (currently 3.6 overall, 3.4 engineering specific), I received a D in Calculus II, and perhaps what concerns me the most is that tested out of Calculus I and Physics I, but my school did not give me credit for either, thus I have taken all the other higher level physics and math, but am lacking those two key credits.
Is the program, like standard Columbia undergraduate admissions, highly competitive? Do I have a decent chance at being accepted in spite of my shortcomings?
I understand that Columbia states on the combined plan webpage that there are not quotas for the number of combined plan students admitted and that it reviews each application independently, but in spite of this I am concerned about the strength of my application, and want to set my expectations accordingly.
Thanks in advance
