@MegsNY from past threads and this one it seems like they release all on one day near their reported decision deadline.
@dan0543 my understanding was that Columbia did not release GSAE scores. I wasn’t able to access mine on the page you linked using my Columbia ID/name/birthdate. It’s nothing more than curiosity since the results aren’t transferrable, but I would like to know how I did…
@arguewithplato Thank you. I was just wondering because I was under the impression that rolling admissions meant they release decisions as they are made.
Everyone except for those accepted is for a regular decision right?? When do you expect your results will come out?
@Congrats The Early Action deadline was October 1st. They said that results will be out by November 15th. Regular decisions will be out by December 20th.
Has anyone else gotten a request for their midterm grades? I submitted my application by Sept 1st and was expecting a decision Oct 1st but received a request by Columbia for my midterm grades at my current school on 9/27. Now I have no idea when to expect a decision.
@incomingvbied Did you submit it tho? You should have got a response from the school I suppose.
@Congrats Yea I submitted it on 10/4 cause it was a holiday when they requested the grades. I was just told they’ll “be in touch”.
Cool, hope everything goes well!!
Meanwhile I’m still waiting for my decision haha. I did everything before the September 1st deadline.
But then I had an interview so I’m assuming I’ll find out on Nov 15th along with the rest of the regular decision applicants
When do you guys think the decision will come out? I’ve submitted to Columbia, Cornell, UMich, and NYU, and I’m guessing Columbia will the first to release the decisions. I’m expecting mid-November for Columbia! (I applied Econ)
I learned about this program couple weeks ago, and applying for spring 2020.
From reading comments here, it seems like there are a lot of Community College students applying. Are there many CC students in the GS program?
Also regular decision applicants should expect to hear from them by Nov 15 or Dec 20?
What types of people consists GS program? Also, is professional experience a must to be admitted?
@shinsaeng Although GS students come from a variety of backgrounds, and by definition we are “non-traditional,” community college students do represent a significant cohort of the GS class. It’s not unheard of for students to have taken a few semesters at community college to get some basic prerequisites out of the way or to lower the number of semesters they need to take at Columbia.
Very good to know. I am working in private sector of government affairs(foreign) and I would be delighted to work with passionate young minds.
When should we expect to hear from them if I am to submit everything by tomorrow? Just waiting on the english test result.
I submitted my application by the end of September. I am expecting to get the decisions in a couple of weeks!
Is English Proficiency Test requirement strict for admission? I dont see any info on conditional admission for CU… I have no SAT scores, I have some college experience(in US) and have been living in the US for many years. I got 111 on IBT, but that was 4 years ago. I took Duolingo and got 115, whereas 120 is required. I honestly think I have no problem with English, I have 99(A) on my creative literature class at Parsons… already submitted the test result.
Do what is required. If you’re an international and havent spent a certain amount of time in the States, you need test score such as TOEFL. Too bad your TOEFL test has expired tho. And no SAT either? You’re gonna have to look at the website or just call the admission office directly and ask.
Were you accepted? Let’s connect, I’m also from Korea
@NoSpeakEnglish According to the admissions website (https://gs.columbia.edu/content/how-apply):
“If your native or predominant spoken language is not English and the primary language of instruction in your high school or secondary education was not English, you must demonstrate proficiency in English by submitting official scores from the Duolingo English Test, TOEFL, or IELTS. The Duolingo online exam takes about 30 minutes to complete, and test results are available within 48 hours. If submitting a TOEFL or IELTS score report, the exam must have been taken within two years of applying.”
Since you’ve indicated that English is not your first language, and it may be that your high school/secondary school language of instruction was not English, it seems that you will have to prove English proficiency. If you are unsure (since you are already taking university classes taught in English), I would advise that you contact the admissions office to ask!
@incomingvbied So how did it end up?
