In the future, you should really wait more than a couple of hours before bumping a thread.

I’m taking it that you finished high school, took a year off, and are now applying to schools? If that’s the case, then your high school grades and test scores will have an enormous role in your application…they basically WILL BE your application.

There have certainly been people who have done poorly in high school and gone on to transfer to elite schools. They have to compensate for the poor high school performance by truly excelling in their first couple years of college though.

Where are you transferring from?

ummm I am talking about if you excel for the first 2 years of college. I am just asking about the transfer rate to columbia GS

@Recker,

My name is Christina and I am the Communications Officer for GS. Transfer students are very common at GS, and the Office of Admissions will be able to determine how much time you have taken off by reviewing your transcripts.

The short answer to your initial question is yes, it is definitely possible. While high school GPA and test scores are important, if a student demonstrates improvement by excelling in courses at a community college, for example, this is certainly taken into consideration.
