I’ll have to look into this further before I comment on the science.

If true, the fact that we can’t objectively study “street” drugs doesn’t surprise me. We’re hysterical about drugs in this country. Most of us can’t even legally obtain weed (which has never killed any one) but legal drugs that can kill us are routinely given with the signature of a doctor.

The entire history of drugs in this country is built around racial hysteria. That we can’t have a reasonable conversation about them is incomprehensible to me on any logical level but also completely not surprising given what I know about the average American voter.

I’ve heard that Adderall is popular with HS kids as a way to boost their performance on tests.

This is old news.

Thats why stimulants are class II drugs

Well, because it is?

Adderall is given in pill form. Most crystal meth is smoked or injected. The delivery mechanisms are different.

Students crush and snort adderall pills.

^Yes, but I don’t think anyone claims Adderall is safe when not used as prescribed.

The point is, when injested in that delivery method (crushed/snorted) it is more parallel to other illicit amphetamine use.

My son used Concerta when he was in school but when he began working a 9 to 5 job he said it made him “feel like tearing off his face.”. He is given to hyperbole but we took it to mean that when he was no longer in a learning environment it was way more than he needed or wanted.

What’s the point of this thread? Is the OP arguing Adderall is over-prescribed? Or is the OP arguing we need to be more concerned about the recreational use of Adderall?

Years ago, when I was diagnosed with ADHD, I was given dexedrine. This was right before Ritalin was approved. Of course these are stimulants. That is what works for ADHD. I would never have made it through school without these meds.
