does anyone know that if Columbia ever rescinded anyone? they sent me a letter asking for my explanation for 3 Bs in my final semester, and before that I had 3ish Bs throughout hs. Is anyone else getting this? am I getting rescinded?
It’s highly unlikely you would be rescinded for 3 B’s, but you do need to answer what they asked. Only answer what they asked, don’t volunteer extra info (like the prior B’s.)
Can your HS counselor help you with your response?
i was sick a lot of times in the last semester and my school counselor can probably provide that context too, but i am still so scared😭
I would contact your counselor and strategize how to handle things. Your counselor could also write something too, if that’s appropriate.
I know there’s probably not any way to fully alleviate your stress, but I really don’t think they are considering rescinding your admission. They just want you to succeed when you get there. Good luck.
You haven’t shared the content of your letter (and you don’t need to do so), but in general, if a school is considering rescinding an offer, they will be explicit about that, share their concerns and look for information about your ability to handle the work, etc. Provide a clear explanation and I expect you will be fine.
Yes they have.
But I will also tell you that neither Columbia, nor any other US university, has ever rescinded for B’s.
They are, as you found out, notorious for sending out nasty letters to accepted applicants whose grades have dropped. You must respond, and in a timely manner. Posters above have given great directions on how to respond. Good luck
Respond promptly, politely, professionally and honestly, and everything will be just fine.
If you have a chronic illness that is affecting your grades, that might not be something you want to share with admissions right now, unless you have recovered. If you were acutely ill, that is different and okay to mention if it is resolved. But generally you don’t want to make excuses unless they are totally legit!
I alr sent my explanation and asked them if they are considering rescinding it and they went vague on it, just said that I will get an update in a week…
If you had a medical issue that has been resolved, consider asking your doctor to send Columbia a brief note as well.
I wouldn’t have done that, but what’s done is done. But I don’t think you’ll have an issue
thanks for the note, but do you think they would be considering it because I asked?
You’re overthinking
