Will I Get Rescinded?

Dang. Sorry, I’m new here. I’m a senior who applied ED to Columbia in October. I am worried because I’ve had straight A’s throughout all of high school, but I’m probably going to get a B in a community college Spanish class and in AP Calc AB this semester. I’ve never had a B before so I’m worried about getting rescinded.

A. In the future, start a new thread, which I’ve done for you. Hijacking another person’s thread is considered bad etiquette.

B. If you get accepted, and that’s a big if, it’s unlikely you will get rescinded. But, because Columbia is infamous for this, you can expect to receive a snotty “We’re disappointed in your latest grades” letter which will require your to respond with an explanation and your plan for improvement.

If admitted, you absolutely will not be rescinded for a couple B’s. Won’t happen. Relax about that. However, straight A’s may not get you admitted in the first place. A great GPA is just one factor.

FWIW, Columbia is currently considering expanding its first year class size by up to 20% and said they would decide before ED decisions to expand ED if they did. So at least you have that going for you.

Well, you haven’t been admitted yet so this is a bit premature. And if you’re deferred, they will probably ask for first semester grades so you should work to get those grades up to improve your chances at an admission. But schools do not generally rescind for two Bs.

Can’t be rescinded if not admitted.

If admitted, you won’t be rescinded - not even close.

Okay, thank you for doing so. Sorry, again, I am brand-new to this forum.

Wow, that’s crazy. My only real explanation is that AP Calc was incredibly difficult and I was very busy applying to Columbia.

Okay, gotcha. I forgot about deferral as an option. I honestly would prefer a flat-out rejection over a deferral. I can’t handle the waiting. I will try to get my grades up, but unless I ace the final, it’s not looking great.
