Ah, perhaps. The Columbia supplement is a source of endless frustration for me because there are some questions that are laughably easy to answer (“Why Columbia?”, heh, I could write a dissertation and you’re giving me 1500 characters?!), and others, such as the books and publications, that are deeply annoying to me. I can tell you that last year when I applied I was scrupulously truthful in recording every book that I had read in the past year (the wording of the question has changed somewhat), and I don’t think my penchant for young adult fiction particularly endeared me to the adcoms. Similarly, I would strike the pop concerts and perhaps Jay Leno, not necessarily because they will hurt you but because they are just not relevant and, especially when contrasted with the more serious events you have attended, make you look a bit shallow.
