Columbia Transfer Fall 2020 WAITLIST

also extended waitlist. this is insane

I’m imagining all non-internationals on the waitlist were offered positions on the extended waitlist.

My letter indicated that the “extended waitlist” is the “final, most selective waitlist.”

I am encouraged that there is still a chance, even if it is “small.” I am very happy to still be considered for any spots that might open up by August

Here is to the hope that some spots open up, once Columbia announces their plans for the fall!

Let’s all hang in there as best we can until August and hope that some spots open up.

How do you all feel about this “extended waitlist”? Perhaps it is just me, but it seems like a brazen attempt to cover their asses in case people drop out due to covid/online classes by taking advantage of the hopes of everyone on the waitlist. Also, if this thread is representative of the original waitlist, they seem to have kept everyone waiting; i.e. told us all we were really being considered to keep our interest. I suppose its the disingenuousness of it that bothers me so much.

Anyone got in? I got an email regarding the extended waitlist…

I’m on the extended waitlist as well. It’s interesting that they said they released the “majority” of those on the waitlist, though most people on here seem to have gotten the extended waitlist message.

well I guess we’re here for another month :frowning:

If it makes you all feel better, the extended waitlist letter is the same that the first-year applicants received. So when it said, ‘class is full,’ they likely spoke regarding the freshman class being full

Do you guys know if they accepted anyone off the transfer waitlist yet? I hope they have at least let one person in by now. It’d make it this whole waitlist thing seem more legitimate, and not just their fallback plan in case something crazy happens and people don’t return.

Columbia announced its plan for the fall.

1st and 2nd years as we’ll as transfer will be welcomed on campus only in the fall.

3rd and 4th years will be allowed on campus only in the spring.

Looks like classes remote is an option both semesters for all or at least most classes. Some classes in person at discretion of the professor.

Any news?

No news on my applicant status page. My extended waitlist letter indicated that they would update my status in early August.

So I suspect that we have a few more weeks until we receive notice one way or the other.

I think we all have to hang in there a little bit longer.

How do you feel about transferring with such late notice and it possibly being online?

Doesnt that assume that they will actually offer extended waitlist people admission though? I’m not holding my breath expecting there will be space-not sure what you guys think though

I wish I knew how many transfer candidates are on the Extended Waitlist – is it 20, 50, 150? (any “Columbia insiders” out there?).

I don’t think even Columbia knows exactly how many current students are returning to campus this Fall. The housing commitment form was due this week (?) but Fall tuition payments are not due until early September. Also, I read that Columbia would like to fill dorms to 60% capacity. How many of the 6,700* current students have already decided to stay in their home city next semester and take classes remotely?

Today New York State moved into “Stage 4” of reopening which I assume is good omen for Columbia dorms reopening.

  • This does not include the class of 2024

Looks like 13 of us on this thread were put on the extended waitlist. My guess, based on pure speculation, is that the extended waitlist is probably around 20 people.

Let’s hope that Columbia decides it has space for all 13 of us on this thread. It’s such a crazy year, who knows, maybe the spots will open up!

Looking at the R*ditt Applying to College thread (A2C “Columbia extended waitlist”) I see about a dozen other waitlisters—maybe some are duplicates…

Still, even if 5% of the 6700 Columbia undergrads don’t return (does not include 2024s), that’s about 300 spots that might be filled by Extended Waitlisters… But, only Columbia knows the real numbers…

I am guessing Columbia AO will look hard at open spots in late July. They may try to balance the open spots to match the schools (CC, SEAS, etc) and applicant demographics and geography.

Make it 14 people. Not sure how I didn’t find this forum before, but I am a computer science major transferring from a California Community College and was also placed on the extended waitlist… still having my hopes and dreams up

Well, 14 plus the 12 I saw on R*ddit leads me to guess 30 extended waitlisters out there…

Havingfunismy, is the R*ddit thread you saw for first years or transfers?

I checked R*ddit and could only find an A2C Columbia extended waitlist thread for incoming first years with about 12 people but I could not find an extended waitlist thread for transfers. If I missed another thread my apologies.

But if you were looking at the incoming first year thread, its possible the number of us transfer applicants on the Columbia extended waitlist is fewer than 30. I have my fingers crossed that our waitlist is closer to 20.

That said, I like your analysis and projection above for the number of spots that might open up for us waitlisters. I definitely am keeping hope that Columbia will find spots for all 14 us here on this thread who are on the extended waitlist.

Good luck to everyone and fingers crossed for us all!
