Columbia University '13 EARLY DECISION

Another Sufjan fan here! But I’m reserving Illinoise/Chicago for U of Chicago, lol.

The Killers are my 2nd fave band, lol. Any Muse fans on? They’re my #1 favvvvve =D

I’m lame, I only listen to “mainstream” indie…I love Arcade Fire, Regina Spektor, Imogen Heap, Broken Social Scene, The Postal Service, the Juno soundtrack…lol.

And I don’t think we should make a thread just for music, we should see how long we can get this thread before Thursday at 5 pm. I think it’ll get to at least 75 pages. LoL.

Soap, why does indie music make you mad? :frowning: It can be really good. Of course people who only listen to way-obscure indie are d0uchey tools, I actually agree with nahshimshimhaeyo here, but that doesn’t mean that the music itself is bad!

Classic rock and '80s new wave/punk was pretty much my middle school life, but then I got into indie. I still listen to everything I used to. I don’t think I know anyone who listens to exclusively one genre, anyways. It’s boring and closed-minded to limit yourself. As such, I don’t see a point in bashing other people’s taste in music.

wat do you mean ACTUALLY agree fool :P

^I mean you’re actually right about something for once.

XP

fishgills, I kind of love new wave too  And I’m not bashing others’ taste in music, I’m bashing the general attitude of most people who only listen to indie, their whole holier-than-thou attitude because they only listen to bands you’ve never heard of, only drink ethos water from Starbucks, and only shop at Whole Foods.

That said, I do admit to being a music snob…but I do listen to a broad range of genres.

It’s not so much the music itself as it is the idea of the music. And plus, I like being boring and close-minded… it’s a lot more fun that you would think!!

ahhh spazzity I LOVE MUSEEEEEEEE!!! starlight can pretty much get me through anything haha =]

With you there. Muse is great. Personal fave is the track after that, Supermassive Black Hole.

Anyone out there like rap? Come on, you heard me and nahshimshimhaeyo breaking down rhymes back there…

OK I think everyone can agree that Muse is awesome. But what’s even more awesome… Phil Collins!

^Boring and close-minded? Been there, done that. :stuck_out_tongue: Besides, the music is actually good if you can be open-minded enough to listen to it…which you clearly aren’t, lol.

woah phil collins like tarzan phil collins? haha

Um no, Muse>>>>>>>>>>>anything else  (See? I can be close-minded too :P)

AAAAHH I LOVE MUSE!! Black Holes and Revelations is pretty much the best thing EVER. It’s like the most perfect album ever, and every song is just totally amazing. But Absolution and Origin of Symmetry are completely amazing too. And most of Showbiz. =D Apparently Muse’s live concerts are pretty much religious experiences, though I haven’t been to one yet =[

The only rap I like is old school rap. '90s rap = awesome. Rap nowadays, I’m not too big a fan of.

Hey spazzity gimme some indie bands that will help me open my mind.

haha i just listen to it because it’s good, i don’t really care if it’s “indie” or whatever
seriously though, indie folk = absolute love, a lot of people don’t really see it though, so when you meet someone that does… WOW so exciting

what about iron & wine? delta spirit? matt costa? death cab? right away, great captain? manchester orchestra? colour revolt? brand new?
not all of it is indie or whatever, but all of it is greattttt… sigh, music just makes me so happy haha

LoL ok, the entire Juno soundtrack is good but may be too indie for indie-haters…The Shins, Arcade Fire, The Postal Service (barely indie but still indie ish), Regina Spektor, Sia, Imogen Heap, The Format, Garbage, Iron & Wine, MGMT (a little mainstream but still indie ish), The Mountain Goats, Fleet Foxes, Frou Frou, Girl Talk (not really but kind of), Josh Ritter (idk if he’s “indie” but I consider him indie, it’s good country music, and I thought that was an oxymoron until I listened to him), and I may be veering more just alterna-mainstream here but Mika, The Dandy Warhols, Beck, Bright Eyes, Spoon, Cake, Vampire Weekend (they formed while they were undergrads at Columbia, I believe)…that should be enough for now lol.

Edit
Oh and how could I forget, if you’re into hard rock, Karnivool is awesome (they’re indie because I think they still haven’t signed yet lol).

Oh and I also consider Flobots to be kind of like indie rap ish. LoL.

Funny cause I just got Juno on Bluray. It actually spawned my dislike for indie. Great movie, bad soundtrack. But I’ll give the other ones a shot… thanks :-)

No prob, always glad to spread my musical taste!! Muahahaha! =D What music do you normally listen to, Soap1234?

iron & wine <3

mika…I think i have a song from him…take it easy…pretty good

btw did I mention i listen to techno also? Lol

^Awesome, I love techno too! LoL. Mostly club/dance/electronica techno.

I really listen to anything, but classic rock is prolly my fav. I’ve never really given indie a chance, so maybe it’s nto as bad as I thought.
