Columbia University ED Class of 2022

is it even possible for guidance counselors to be notified before the students?

@Morocco965 Agreed. I can’t imagine that GC would know before an applicant.

@Morocco965 @GrusMinion then what do you think it means?

you guys need to stop trying to read so much into things—nothing will “hint” at a decision other than a likely letter, and those are few and far between. i’ve seen so many people wonder if financial stuff indicates if they’ve been accepted or rejected, or if the GC letters indicate anything, etc. none of those things mean anything and i’m pretty sure @skieurope clarified this earlier in the thread. you won’t know the decision until next week, and there are no hints. @biolover0318 i encourage you to ask your GC more about this email.

hi everyone i’ve been following this thread for a while now and i just wanted to say hi! i’m super stressed about my decision (like i’m sure everyone else is) but hang in there everyone!!

also, @biolover0318 i don’t mean to call you out or anything but can you please tone it down a little? your stats are good and you know they are. you don’t need people to tell you you have a good shot at columbia because it’s honestly so random, and it’s really stressing me (and i’m sure others too) out!! thank you!

@calibali that’s really rude, @1984ad has been really supportive to everyone throughout this thread and they’re only trying to help. we’re all really stressed and we all need to take a chill pill!

@Stressedhelpme Relatable. Honestly guys, what I’ve been doing is focusing in on academics extra curricular activities being at school for almost 12 hours a day to keep my mind off it and weekends work like 9 hours and then shop after. Honestly stressing about it won’t do anything, most decisions are already made. I don’t mean to be a negative Nelly but seriously guys like what @Stressedhelpme said we all need to take a chill pill. Enjoy life because this is kinda our last year of no actual stress because then its Undergraduate programs and following the work force and or graduate school and then the work force. Step back and be enjoy life, read a book, do something to get your mind off this. Hope that helps and I hope that I didn’t offend anyone.

i totally agree with what everyone is saying. we all want to get into columbia, which is obvious since we applied ED, but there’s no point in speculating when we know absolutely nothing. if someone receives a letter or email or something else, then i think it’s fine to post about that here but i think it’s wrong to assume things like that even mean anything yet. we don’t even have a concrete date yet, so it makes 0 sense for someone (especially a non athlete) to be accepted via counselor. we can sit here all day and speculate and guess, but in the end it just stresses everyone out for no reason. just like @stressedhelpme and @TomTanJoseR2022 said, we should try to chill out and relax this final week. yes, it’s stressful, but it’ll be better if we all collectively accept that we can’t change anything about what’s going to happen soon. take in this final Pre-Columbia-Decision week, and make it memorable so that you’ll have something nice to reflect on no matter the decision :))

@biolover0318 i think you have a good chance of getting in (as do many others in this thread) but i personally don’t think the email means anything. if you get in, i doubt the email will have even been related to your acceptance. nonetheless, good luck to you and everyone else!

Is anyone else confused as to why on the application status page it says we can see the status of our materials up until November 30th and yet they’re still there?

life is about the journey. you have to find a way to enjoy the path and the journey to successes. most of your life is spent in the journey of you trying to achieve your goals and dreams, if you spend all your time stressing about achieving them and stressing about factors that are out of your control you will forget to enjoy your life and unfortunately if/when you achieve your goal or dream you won’t enjoy that either because you will just be focused on the next goal and your next dream. This site just serves as a negative feedback loop from hell. Log out, stop worrying about your decision or notification dates, and try enjoy your journey of getting into Columbia.

Checklists are officially removed from the portal! It definitely seems like we are close. Just a reminder that we will all end up where we belong (no matter how cliche that sounds). Take care of yourself, watch a movie, read a book, put on a face mask, whatever you can do relax (I will definitely be rewatching some of The Office tonight to get my mind off of things!). Positive vibes from here on out…

Well disregard my last comment then :))

Has Columbia sent out an e-mail telling its applicants exactly when ED decisions will become available? My friends are receiving such e-mails from other schools, but I’m yet to receive one.

@1984ad Her first comment is crazy bc she’s terrified of that an A- in gym will reflect poorly. Right after I asked if anyone used IvyWise counseling she says indirectly “when I went to my session at IvyWise they told me they’re wrong sometimes so idk if we should trust them,” and never in all of my research has a college sent a letter to a GC telling them a student got in prior to acceptances (excluding athletes ofc).

@idntwnalive4ever i dont understand what you mean by college advisor. that sounds like a paid third party, so how would they know someones decision before them? is that even allowed?

@1984ad I completely agree. I’ve never encountered or came across a GC knowing a decision before an applicant. Maybe NYU does it, but I don’t think the Ivies do

Reading through the threads carefully, I realized that you guys really need to chill off  No matter the outcomes, I think applying ED for Columbia was an unforgettable experience since this was the chance for me to assess if I am really prepared to devote my effort and time to prepare my future. Nothing will be changed. Let’s get off from the portal and CC website and do something productive (idk… hws, Netflix, spotify, etc…)

My interviewer also asked me how I would accept the rejection and I said exactly what I said in above
Hope y’all have nice evening and don’t fall behind for other college apps too!

@stressedhelpme I’m so sorry! I assumed that everyone applying to Columbia had similar stats as me, my bad :frowning:

@AcademiaSavvy I really don’t think it’s fair that you’re personally attacking me for my insecurities… everyone has the right to be concerned about their grades.

Yikes. Moving away from all the drama, I just found this video of move-in day and it’s actually the best https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLh-ZnPsK9E.
