how many apps do you think were submitted this year? they were increasing a few percentage points each year, but last year was crazy––there was a 16% increase. im guessing theres around 4300-4400 apps this time around, (compared to about 4050 last year) but im not sure
@bagelboy after seeing lady bird last week i’ve been interested in seeing Call Me By Your Name (kyle from lady bird stars as the lead). have you heard anything about it? i’m thinking of reading the book beforehand but i havent really researched how well received the movie has been yet
@1984ad i agree that GPA doesnt tell the whole story, but if people in AP classes tend to ace the test it starts to tell you more.
@1984ad YES! I have been wanting to see it so badly– I’m such a sucker for those movies. I know it’ll be out either this or next weekend but I think I might just hold off and read it and then watch it sometime over winter break/mid January. The movie is getting amazing reviews by the way, it’s almost as well reviewed as lady bird. Also, I was reading the other posts and agree with everything you said about lorde, melo was such a great album and I’m really pulling for her AOTY grammy. It really is a shame (and kind of strange) that she didn’t get nominated in the song/pop album category.
@stressedibstudent i’m currently taking HL: film, bio and eng lang + lit, SL: math, chinese b and econ. what about you? btw your username sums up my term 1 (we use terms instead of semesters) of senior year
@1984ad as someone wanting to major in film, i keep up with current film news a lot and I can definitely tell you that CMBYN is earning a lot of Oscar buzz, has been around the festival circuit for a while now and Timothée Chalamet (swooooon, the actor you mention who is also in Lady Bird) is the acting discovery of the year! he attended LaGuardia High School in NYC! he’s only 21, which is absolutely mindblowing. you may have caught him in a small role as Cooper’s son in Interstellar. also Armie Hammer is finally getting the types of roles he deserves! i knew once i saw him in The Social Network that he’s an amazing actor but I’m so happy he can sink his teeth into such a great role. i’ve been watching any clips and the trailer for CMBYN because it isn’t out yet or to my knowledge, even planning to come out where i live! sorry i’m just excited and nerding out a bit…
I take HL theatre (since they don’t offer film at my school – but I do a lot of film work outside of school since I live in CA), HL English Lit, HL History, and SL French A Lang/Lit, Bio SL, and Maths SL :)) @tooambitious123
@AcademiaSavvy Yeah, I do. I called to ask a few weeks ago about it. The FA rep said that since I submitted a noncustodial waiver form, my IDOC tax returns will say incomplete until they review it. If something is actually missing, it won’t affect your admissions decision but you might have to go through an extended process to get an accurate financial aid offer. So don’t stress!!
@linhcinders You’re actually in a really great position. I participated in CE2 this year (Columbia Engineering’s Fly In program), and most QuestBridge finalists who switch their applications to the ED round seem to get in. As long as you communicated a genuine and specific reason as to “Why Columbia” in your supplements (which they said was much more important than your common app essay), you have a great shot at getting in. I’m a Finalist too and I regret not doing the match. The super low success rate was a little discouraging haha but hopefully ED goes well for everyone!
They updated the portal. It’s officially the 14th
Well, it’s only my opinion, but I think while Columbia has a target time in mind, they do not want to commit to a time at this point. While an email is hardly a contract, they also don’t want thousands of emails at 6:01 wondering why the decisions aren’t posted. @1984ad
edited to add. OK, so now it looks like the time is 7 p.m. Makes them glad they did not commit earlier.

They gave us what we asked for, a definitive date and time.
