They just sent the official emails with the date as well
So nervous!! Good luck everyone!! x
7pm ET will be 1am for me so at least I can open the decision without people surrounding me, even though I will have to stay up and I will be super nervous. I cannot believe that we will already know our decisions in less than a week!
I’m probs gonna be loaded with work so watch me not realize it’s past 7 until at least 7:30 if not 8, lol. I literally have an order of people that I’m gonna tell
@1984ad et al. Point taken -_-. Sorry for flexing guys. I love all y’all and this is a much nicer community than for a lot of other schools I’ve seen.
@LtntHawkeye its fine! i honestly dont even think you needed to be chanced, you already have a great profile all around and nothing we say will be able to change that or the decision at this point, so just hope for the best!
net neutrality rules are planned to be repealed on the 14th too…just what i needed after my rejection :((
@1984ad omg that was the first thing I thought of too-
btw y’all, if you’re against the repeal of net neutrality, PLEASE CALL YOUR CONGRESSMEN&THE FCC !! IT TAKES LIKE 3 MINUTES
Net Neutrality has been in place for 2 years. We have had a non regulated internet for more than 35… I dont think we need net neutralitt.
@RoarLions net neutrality is indispensable if you want to be able to explore and use the internet according to your own accord and not be chained to the decisions of ISPs and other companies that may be able to slow down competing sites or charge users to view some webpages. as someone who wants to major in CS, you might have your career altered by regulations like these!
also, funnily enough, the term “net neutrality” was coined by a columbia professor. i can’t escape this school :))
@1984ad I am aware of what net neutrality is, but I think we get a biased opinion about it. Perform a google search about it, most of the results are going to be pro net neutrality. It is hard to get an opinion against it. We are only getting one side of the “problem” Most people should perform a little more research on the topic before creating a solid pro opinion and contacting congressmen.
@RoarLions just because the majority of people support something doesn’t mean that it’s inherently wrong; i’m actually glad that almost everyone can agree on an issue for once lol
@1984ad I have never used the word wrong; I am just saying that I see both points: pro and against net neutrality while most people have a one sided view because of the lack of research.
MODERATOR’S NOTE:
Let’s move on from arguing about net neutrality, please. While I understand everyone is anxious, and I do allow stream of consciousness postings here, per Terms of Service, this site is not a debate society.
It’s so weird, as the decision date gets closer, I feel more like I’m not going to be accepted.
@AcademiaSavvy uhhhhhhh the biggest mood! i thought I had a chance when I first applied but now its so close and I really don’t see it happening… it’s so strange
I def alternate between “I’m so great, I do great stuff, I’m getting in” to “lmao I have no chance i want to die” and it alternates VERY quickly. My spanish teacher ran up to me today and asked if I got in (which freaked me out). She told me she had the most realistic dream she’d ever had that I got in, but like, am I externally stressing so much that other people are stressing for me??
@katewithak @bagelboy @AcademiaSavvy same lol. in the beginning i was like “hey, i like my application, im proud if it, i think i have a decent chance” and now im like “columbia probably saw my application and unfortunately lost some AOs because they all died of laughter.”
everyone else keeps asking me and talking about it to me too and im nervous!! i honestly dont think im gonna get in at this point because i havent done anything crazy or super amazing like some of the other applicants i’ve seen. however it would really help if i could just get rejected earlier so i could start to accept their decision and move on even though i dont want to lol
is anyone else concerned about the decision for the way that other people will react? I know it’s stupid to make the decision about other people, but I feel like everyone at school that is rooting for me will be disappointed (not at me of course, but at the decision should it be bad). It’s even a bigger thing because everyone on staff knows I applied ED and the underclassmen do too…
@bagelboy Yeah that’s why I have kept it quiet. Only my close friends, teachers, and GC know because I didn’t want it to become this big thing if I got rejected.
@AcademiaSavvy I always want to keep things quiet in case they don’t work out but I genuinely don’t know how underclassmen and staff found out– I think the people that did know were just excited (maybe???) and told others
