It was indeterminate because the side could have been sqrt(3) or 2*sqrt(3).

guys, there is still another time the test is going to be administered, so to make everything fair and so that later date people do not have an advantage, do NOT talk about the test questions. i doubt they would change tests since they have to compare everyone’s test to a standard.

I wholeheartedly agree with whatkneww’s point. Please be kind to those of us who took it today. Good luck to you April 27 people.

Did it say we couldn’t discuss? I don’t remember seeing it

I have really low hopes.
I’m a complete science person, NOT a math person. I applied mainly for the science courses.

On the easy math, I skipped three and think I got the rest right so ~47
I’ve never taken physics since I’m a sophomore, so I skipped about 4 questions on science. I’m guessing one or two wrong so ~70.
I blew it on challenge math. I answered 9. Two were guesses. I know I got one wrong so ~6.

:(

I was really frazzled as I had gotten lost trying to find the building, and I stupidly gave up hope in doing well on the exam.

Yeah, I did really bad on challenge math too. I practiced AMC 12 and I would be able to answer around 14-16 but the timing completely screwed me over. Do you think I could get in with 9 attempted? I think I got them all correct though. I saw some previous posts saying that they got in with only 7/20 on the challenge math so I guess we still might have a chance. Don’t lose hope guys.

Out of 20? The exam today only had 15 problems?

My estimate:
Math: 50/50 (maybe 49)
Science answered 73/75 but i think i got 2 or 3 wrong
Challenge math: answered 11/15 should all be right.
I think i have a decent chance.

Pretty sure I’m not gonna get in unless they take math into a larger consideration over science, which is unlikely both because it’s called the Columbia /Science/ Honors Program and there were 75 questions on the science section versus 50 on the math. I’m a freshie, so I haven’t taken any physics yet and I’m generally a mediocre science student at best but oh well…

Math: 50/50
Science: 60/75
Challenge Problems: 14/15

These so-called “challenge” problems were actually quite easy, I made a calculation error on one of them and only realized after the test finished, hopefully 14 is enough to make up for the failed science section.. thoughts?

I did not do well on the science. I dont know how it is possible to prepare for that…

Just a question, how many rooms were people being tested in? Was it just one room in Pupin and one in the Northwest Corner Building.

Math: 50/50
Science: 50/75
Challenge: 12/15

Get me in there.

@mathwarrior - don’t sell yourself short. I’ve heard that they put a lot of weight on the challenge math section, which you did very well in. I’m essentially in the same boat:

Math: 49/50
Science: 65/75
Challenge: 13/15

I’m hoping that these scores are sufficient.

Hi guys…I’m taking the test on the 27th. No calculators, correct? At this point, should I focus on studying for the challenge math section or the science? I have no chemistry background (I’m a freshman), and I have taken biology over the summer and am taking physics currently.
Also, how will the freshman curve help me, if it will at all?
Thanks! Congratulations on finishing the test for all the people who took it Saturday!

No calculators allowed
I would say focus on chemistry if you’re better at the AMC10/12, physics was only about 10-15 questions. 6 of them were about electricity so I blanked out on those (I’ve only taken chemistry and biology). The others were easier to figure out
Bio and chemistry made up the bulk of the questions, and I think there might have been more bio. Also there was a random section on geology/ earth science

I’ll be really bummed if the challenge section is the part they focus in on. I’m really passionate about science, and I’m looking to be an environmental biologist someday or a biochemist. Although my math section was very weak, I was pretty good in science considering my complete lack of knowledge in physics. My school gpa is good, so maybe that will help? I need a miracle to be admitted.

What if we only got 45 on the science, with 20 wrong? Do we have a chance?

Hello everybody.

Supposedly, one person got in with these scores last year:
REG. MATH : 50.50
SCIENCE : 60.75
CHA. MATH : 10.15

If this is you, relax.

And also supposedly, the test on the earlier date is given a higher curve.
They also give preference to kids who live farther from Columbia since these people don’t have that many chances to go to these programs as they live far away. I live in NJ :)

Thanks ccLiuLiu! I really hope I get in

Someone told me that Stuyvesant High School students and Bronx High School of Science students are generally the only students to ever get in because they are the ‘Science and Math’ Schools near Columbia…

I attend BC up in NJ :(

Can anyone tell me if Columbia really gives preference to NYC students rather than other upstate students?
