Columbia University Science Honors Program ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

Math: 50/50
Science: 72/75, but pretty sure I got a few wrong
Challenge: 15/15

Am a Stuyvesant High School freshman, in case people are wondering.

what kind of chemistry is on the test? stoichiometry, nuclear chem, organic, etc?

Hey guys do we have any formulas that we need memorized or are all relevant formulas given?

If any formulas are needed which one

Hey, anyone else taking it tomorrow? How are you preparing for it?

Good luck to everyone for tomorrow!! :)

lul so nervous for tomorrow. so not prepared for the astronomy/physics/earth science :(

How many take it, how many get in? Is the 2000/400 still accurate?

Hey guys, Im taking the test tomorrow at Havemeyer Hall and wanted to know how much chem is going to be on the test. Im a freshman and Ive only taken earth science, bio, algebra I/II, and geometry. How much trig is going to be on the test? Is not knowing any physics going to hurt me?

I’m honestly really scared for this tomorrow… I know next to no bio and I don’t know if I’m really prepared for the challenging math. I’m just hoping that a killer letter of rec and the fact that I’m not Asian will help me get in >.<

moyoung: Im kind of scared too, just realized how difficult this test was going to be after reading all of these posts

I tried to study some today but got distracted by Doctor Who. I’m just going to wing it tomorrow and hope for the best. I don’t know about you guys, but nothing is really riding on me getting into this program. I would love to, but it isn’t the end of the world if I don’t. So here’s to hoping that 90% of the test is chem and physics and that they are looking for more caucasian sophomore girls..

Discussion:
I totally bombed challenge math today! :frowning: what did people get for the garden question, true false, and race car question? I thought that the race car would be easy, but I think I messed up math wise cause I couldn’t find my answer among the answer choices

Yeah can we please talk about the challenge math

My answers:

  1. I forget the question
    2.-b/c
  2. forget question
  3. forget question
  4. 2 for (n+i)^4
  5. 4 square root of three for hexagon
  6. 3 (true statements)
  7. 1.2 (sink)
    15.

a lot them I forget the questions for … especially 7-12, can someone remind me

what was the last question? (the cowboy one)

Hey guys from the April 6 test date: It looks like the people from the April 27 date had completely different challenge math questions based on what I’m reading above. This is awesome!

I confirm every answer you put up there except for 14, which I didn’t get, and 5. I got -1,0, and 1 to work.
Right now I’m looking at a:
50/50
~65/75
9/15.
What did you get for the probability of the red card? I ended up with 2/3 which I’m unsure about. What are my chances?

50/50 first math
50/75 science
13/15 challenge math
was the 1.2 in challenge math b or c? i dont remember too well.
and yes the red card was 2/3, conditional probability.
the cowboy one was e, sqrt(32) + sqrt(137).

(n+1)^4, pretty sure the answer is 3.

its 3 for sure. 0, 1, -1 are the numbers
