Columbia University Science Honors Program ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

Anyone else applying to CUSHP this year?

hey (@anyone in the program) I need a rec letter from SHP.. anyone gone through the process before? Also (if you were able to see it) how good of a letter was it? I’m assuming it to be pretty generic but I remember Prof Dodd saying how he looks at our scores specifically
ty in advance

@columbia97
I’m in the program, and I just asked my biology teacher for a rec. She didn’t really know me, so it was probably pretty generic. I didn’t see it though.

@silveraurora I’m talking about the rec letter that Prof Dodd writes for people who are already in the program (sorry about not clarifying)

@columbia97 Whoops, my bad. I actually should have read your post more carefully. I haven’t though, sorry.

Ahhh, I remember this point last year, when I was stressing out about applications. Anyone applying that has any question? I’d be glad to help you!

Reviving this thread. Who else is applying to this program? Also, what kind of biology and earth science questions are there? Is the acceptance rate for rising seniors a lot lower? What are the chances to get in? etc.

Nobody else is applying? Really?

Hawkace,

From what we can tell (we dont know for sure,) lower grades have a more lenient curve to account for the lack of knowledge in the tests. so it is easier to get in as an underclassman.

The bio and earth science questions are really varied. there is little you can do to prepare besides mabye read through some ap bio, ap env. sci. prep books. I wouldnt advise that though bc its not worth the time since the questions are so varied

What kind of questions will be on the exam? How can I study for it? Is there any advantage in choosing a later exam date?

I’ve been looking at the site for the application and I’m confused about the deadlines. Are the recs and transcripts due on 2/27 or 3/20. Doesn’t the completed application include the recs and transcripts? And the essays are due when? I’m so confused, I feel like I started this way too late.

I’m a freshman in NJ applying. Anyone want to ride the train with me via Trenton Transit > Penn Station?

So, the application has already been sent… how many people applied this year?

I’m a freshman with only bio, algebra I, and geometry. How much/how in depth should I study for physics, algebra II/trig, precalc, and chem? I’m on the math team and have practice with AMCs.

Did any rising seniors apply?

@hqearth The truth of the matter is that this test is quite impossible to study for.

My fee is in, the online recommendation was received, I submitted my application…they just haven’t gotten my transcript yet.

My counselor said he sent it on March 6th, and it’s been a week. When should I start getting worried? I’m already kind of freaking out right now. D:

@catchinginfinty the transcript isn’t due until the end of March…

Are we allowed to use a calculator for the exam?

@j45455 I believe you are
