For those of you wondering how much prep you need I’ve never qualified for AIME or anything special but I found the math okay. I have a really weak science background outside of medicine but a lot of the test is deciphering pictures… Also my transcript was submitted but it said not received so I had my guidance counseler call and I called and I ended up getting in soo

@Hawkace

Yes, the test is all multiple choice. The earth science questions were extremely varied. They asked volcanoes, rock layers, atmospheric layers (I think), and more.

Biology was more in-depth, but less varied. I forget most of the questions, but I know one asked about specific biologists and their contributions (i.e. Lamarck, Darwin, Mendel).

Science was fairly difficult. I probably got:

55/75 Science
50/50 Easy Math
14/15 Hard Math

General consensus is that the challenge math questions are the most important, because everyone has a different science progression in school.

As for the math, the challenge questions are AMC-10-ish difficulty. I barely qualified for AIME (99 AMC 12A) and I got almost everything right…

I heard there were a few physics questions as well. I’ve never taken physics before so I’m wondering what topics pertaining to physics are included.

@Tman1005 How specific were the science questions? Any materials that you guys recommend studying from?
Also as far as time allotment goes, were you strapped for it? Any tests and ask similar questions?

Sorry for all the questions, really nervous and hoping I get in!!

Took it last year, use this as a reference

50/50 easy math
65/75 science
6/15 challenge (4/15 if you factor guessing penalty)

in short, don’t worry too much about the challenge math. from my experience and from looking at other people who made/didn’t make it, science seems to be the most heavily weighted section.

What? I rather have challenge math weighted more heavily.

203 Mathematics Hall!

@BlackDog1605 Me too! Want to meet up so we can find our way together?

How did you guys feel about the time provided for the test?

@Kayatoast25 Sure! We’ll see what we can do.

The time provided was all right. I would’ve liked a bit more but I couldn’t take it the 26th. Right now I’m just watching crash course biology and need just a bit more chem practice.

I’m kinda winging it. Who’s taking it this Saturday? In the Mathematics Hall?

I’m taking it this Saturday Mathematics Hall

Good luck to everyone taking it tomorrow!

As a reminder, after you take the test, please do not discuss it anywhere until the 26th kids have taken it.

Do the kids on April 26th take the same exam?

Room 312 Mathematics Hall on the 26th!

that was alright but what was up with all the parents taking pictures and making a huge deal of them taking the test? its not like they got into columbia…

Hey guys
I probably got:
49~50/50 Easy Math
45~50/75 Science
10~11/15 for Challenging math
How’re my chances? I’m a freshman, if that helps. I’ve been so nervous right after the test.

The acceptance rate is a lot higher so you stand a pretty good chance.

I’m a junior:

49~50/50 Easy Math
55~60/75 Science <— honestly, I don’t know
14/15 on Challenge Math

@iambigfoot if you actually did get those numbers, then you’re guaranteed in. It helps that you’re a freshman. I did much worse than you my freshman year and I still got in.
