Columbia University Science Honors Program ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

They actually enforce that limit. I have a friend who was kicked out after too many absences.

Congrats to everyone who got in!! As a recent alumni, I can say doing Columbia SHP was one of the best academic decisions I’ve made.

How can you see your scores on the test?

^^ You can’t.

Can someone tell me a little about the program? I am a sophomore and I got in on the first try, and I don’t know what the classes are like, or how many can you take at the same time? Does anyone know what specific classes are important to take, sorry I’m new and not sure what the program is like.

Sure. The classes I’ve had were all great and are really a reason why I am considering majoring in mathematics. They span a huge range of subjects so you can take whatever interests you; there are really no ‘right’ or ‘important’ classes to take. You take one class at a time. Each class is a semester long, so you take 2 per year. If you have any more questions, feel free to message me.

@Falcon1 So I’m allowed a total of 6 absences?

2 excused + 2 unexcused = 4 total

when exactly do we have to let them know whether we want to join or not. my dad says apparently i was accepted but i wont be back from europe for two more weeks to check.

You should have gotten a letter in the mail from them (I got mine 2 days ago) and they have to receive your form on or before July 31

Is anyone else taking the ACT on September 13 and can’t go to the first day of SHP? Do you know who to notify?

You can send an email to let them know ahead of time. Bring your admissions ticket (or whatever the ACT equivalent is, never took it) with you for the following class and show it to the SHP office so that they can mark your absence as excused.

So I got had too many absences and got kicked out the program. Would it be worth sending a letter of apology or something along those lines for readmission? Would it also hurt my chances of applications in the coming year if I was to apply to Columbia?

i was kicked out too, but the thing is, i only had 4 absences in the spring semester and they said i had 5.

i sent them a letter and an email saying that i only had 4, and i told them exactly which days i was absent and asked them to reconsider kicking me out. is there any chance they’ll let me back in?

Yeah I feel like I only had 4 also. But I am less worried about getting ejected rather than having a bad reputation with Columbia, you know what I mean?

In fact, I was just kicked out yesterday -_-

i have no idea about columbia chances, but my guess would be that it doesn’t really affect admissions chances.

i still really want to go to this program and i’ll be super pissed if they don’t let me go because of their mistake -_-

i was kicked out yesterday too, and my letter is being sent out today and my e-mail was sent last night.

Yeah it IS a shame…oh well I plan to send out a letter also, although I do not remember exactly which days I was absent. What grade are you in actually?

going into 12th, i’m assuming you are too, judging from the fact that you’re talking about columbia admissions?

Yeah, same here. Kind of scared about the application process…living in Long Island, NY, have seen so many amazing kids you know?

haha yeah i go to a highly ranked school in NJ so same here it’s scary
