I got in! Anyone from Middlesex County, NJ, near North Brunswick, Piscataway, Montgomery area? We can car pool! If interested, please message me! Also, I’m a junior from North Brunswick Township High School.
for those who got in, did u guys get your hardcopy acceptances already??
Hey guys, congrats to all of you who got accepted.
I’ve been in the program for one year, so if any of you new students have any questions about the program, feel free to message me and I’ll try to answer your questions.
Hi I am also from middlesex county and got accepted into the program. I am from South Brunswick NJ and would be happy to carpool with you or ride the bus together into the city.
Has anyone been able to choose their courses yet?
Hey guys I’m from South Brunswick in Middlesex. I have another friend in it willing to carpool. If you guys live near us hit me up.
Hey,
I’m going into my sophomore year of high school and I’m thinking about taking the exam come April of 2017. Are the challenge math questions all AMC 12 level? I tried doing some of those online but I probably only got like the first 5 out of 25. I think I’ve done alright in school, I have a 96 unweighted average, got a 100 on bio and 96 on geometry regents freshman year, plus I skipped a grade but I’m feeling pretty stupid after trying those questions. Someone help me out?
I haven’t taken trigonometry, calculus, or anything like that so my main problem is that I don’t understand half symbols or terms they use in the questions. Should I just give up?
I say try anyway. I took the test sophomore year while I was taking algebra II/trigonometry. I was really scared about the challenge math because I also had a hard time solving AMC problems but honestly, I found the challenge math to be easier than the more challenging AMC problems. I had an awesome al 2/trig teacher and the challenge math problems resembled her tests. I remember combinations and permutations (probability), might have been some questions about distance and rate. A lot of algebra. I can’t remember exactly what the questions were but I was able to solve 12/15 questions. If you’re good at math and you have good base in algebra go for it. Review geometry and basic trig.
Hey! I would love to carpool with you. My name is Rashi and I’m a senior this year. I’m from North Brunswick. hmu
@DjDumpling So I took the test last year (current student right now). I walked into the room with literally no idea what to expect- to be honest I’m not the most science oriented student, and science classes are tougher for me- and I also had no idea how selective the program was (speaking of which: anyone know what the admission rates are, and how many people apply/get in?).
I thought the science oriented sections were fairly straightforward- didn’t bother answering a few of the more physics/e+m stuff, other than that, wasn’t too bad (can’t compre it to regents since I’m from CT). As for the challenge math, I wasn’t expecting it, and I’ve never touched an AMC problem in my life; I think I figured out about half of them?
Anyways, long story short: my best advice for you would be to go for it and stay calm on the test- absolutely DO NOT freak out or be intimidated by it! If I can do it you can too! Feel free to message me if you have any more questions
@hope469 what year did you take the test? I hear about 15% of applicants get in, but they have some leeway for freshman who take the test. How are you as a student in school? I don’t have much to compare myself off of, and the other kids in the forums make it sound like only prodigies get in(freshman with 15/15 for challenge math?). What type of questions did you mostly see in that section, probability, number theory, algebra? Sorry for all the questions
How should I prepare for the hard math section?
lol I went through a lot of posts in this thread and found my brother’s posts from 6 years ago. He got rejected as a freshman so if I don’t get in as a sophomore it’ll be a major L for the family.
Also I’m lowkey intimidated by everyone in this thread seriously you guys are all so smart.
Admins: any chance we could unpin this thread and pin the ED thread or an ED results thread? most other schools have pinned ED threads
@DjDumpling sorry for the late reply. I took it last spring, don’t worry about the questions! Strangely enough I am usually a very humanities oriented student in school, although I am strong in math. Going in I had zero idea about how selective the program is- I was also mildly carsick when I took the test, so I don’t remember too much. The challenge math is AMC style, I believe, and my advice there would be just buckle down and try to figure 4-5, if you’re like me and don’t do AMC…The science, even for a student who’s worst class on the transcript is science, was fairly straightforward.
Pay attention to the essay. I (like to think that I’m) a decent writer, and I think my app banked a lot on the essay.
@DjDumpling and also I’m a current junior (applied as a sophomore)
Anyone have the stats on acceptance rate and size of this program?
Are the AMC questions from AMC 10 or AMC 12? And how did you prepare for the science - would any particular book from the regents series be of help
@nicolemomof2kids The AMC questions are AMC 10 level. Science is honors level.
