Columbia University Science Honors Program ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

@lateststar124 Congrats in getting into the program. Since the program is free, you can try for a few weeks to see if you can handle the schedule first. I’m sure quitting is easy. Good luck!

Who else is excited for September 16?!! I can’t wait to sign up for classes

@lolgotrekt What classes are you thinking of taking? I’m definitely taking Geometry and Topography but not sure what to take in 2nd semester…

@scietywi A friendly reminder that classes are done by lottery- don’t expect to be taking that class come fall.

@hope469 When you say lottery, it only applies when the class is overfilled, correct? I honestly don’t think that class would be overwhelmingly popular, correct me if I’m wrong. Also, I assume you were part of the program previous years? If so, what classes did you take?

@scietywi I’m interested in Applied Neuro and Fabrication of Quantum Computing Devices

@scietywi- You put your classes in from first to fourth choice, but (especially if you’re a first year- seniority has precedence) you’re really not guaranteed your first choice, as the lottery will select your classes for you. So not just when the class is overfilled (although less popular classes will obviously be easier to get into). I got my second and third choices this year (Biochemistry, Virology).

@hope469 I was thinking about applying for Biochemistry and had interest in Virology. How was your experience with both those classes in terms of hands-on activity?

@lolgotrekt Applied neurology definitely sounds interesting! Hope you get your first two picks!!

@scietywi: if you’re looking for more interactive lessons (there’s no labwork or anything like that in either), I’d strongly suggest going for Virology. In my experience, the teachers were a lot more interactive and funny. However, there’s a lot of lecturing in both (biochemistry especially).

Either way, as a first year, you’re probably not going to get your first pick anyways, so make sure you’re happy with all the classes on your list.

Does anyone know when they will be sending out course selections for Fall 2017. It seems the start date is right around the corner!

Last year they sent them 12 days before the start of classes, so probably soon!

@robinhill I believe they come out sometime around September 16th.

The course selection process is starting tomorrow.

Has anyone received the email for course selection? I still haven’t even though they said it would be mailed out today…

Lol they delayed it

they said they would send it by the end of the weekend, but it’s still not here

Hey if anyone lives near South Brunswick or middlesex county and wants to carpool to the program this year hit me up.

Anyone is from Great Neck or Manhasset and would like to carpool or take LIRR/subway together?

What classes did you guys choose?
