Columbia University Science Honors Program ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

@college3981 oh damn I got that one wrong bc I kept second guessing myself - I hate when that happens.

I desperately tried. I’m a fresh, got most of the first part done, pretty sure a lot of correct answers. Science(oh god) completely bombed it. Only answered like half cause know close to nothing about chem… I only answered 8 of challenge, but pretty sure all of them are correct. Really praying on that curve here
How many of the challenges did you think you got and what grade are you?

Definitely 25
Original was 4 oz, 1/4 acid-25%
Than you add 1 oz of water it becomes 1/5 acid aka 20%
Than you add oz of water and it becomes 2/6 acid which is about 33.3%

yeah im an idiot forgot to add 1 for the acid to the bottom, it is 25%…

also completely messed that one
I didn’t read that it was another oz added to the new mixture

I’m just waiting for the rejection letter now??‍♀️??‍♀️

I’m a sophomore and I definitely failed the science section- I’ve never liked any of my science courses so I never self-studied and didn’t really understand a lot of the questions. I think I got 12/15 on the challenge math and 45-46/50 for the easy math. Generally, you want at least 10/15 on the challenge math section.

Since you’re a freshman, you’ll have the best curve. I wouldn’t stress about it too much.

@rogerfederer25 It won’t hurt and might help a little, but there’s also definitely been a great deal of people who did this program and didn’t get into Columbia. As for other elite programs, it probably won’t register at all because it’s not a nationally well-known program. At the end of the day, this isn’t going to make or break your application to any university, unfortunately.

are the lectures undergrad level? if they were teaching astrophysics, will they gloss over high school physics and jump straight into college physics?

Yeah yeah that’s what I want to know
If I get in(IF- never) I either want to do astrophysics or stars and galaxies and I want to know how hard it will be

@chessmaster1077 LOL u didnt have to do that for the coins, u know that its 3 each cuz its 2.73 so 3 pennies and theyre all the same count. 3 * 5 coins = 15

but 14/15 challenge is good! nice job!

I meant other elite colleges/universities, not programs, sorry

oh shoot @ADITYAEMPIRE i didn’t see that lmao
that’s a nice way to approach problems like that actually tysm

omg im so screwed i def got 11 rt but im afraid 3 blank and one wrong is gonna throw me off so bad
also we shouldnt discuss test answers becuz every year the questions are similar.

And whoever said the Challenge Math is like the AMC completely threw me off.

I do AMC in school and I have seen similar problems before, like the cube one
So it is kinda like amc

the cube one was 788 right?

And what was the answer to the question where a man drives for some distance with different speeds for different times. (the question asked for the distance)

488
1000(10^3)-512(8^3)

ya @anna789college its 488
@CSHP2022 idk that looked too long so i skipped it

the amc is a lot harder… and this test had no probability.

Yeah that’s true
And it’s great because I usually suck at it because I just immediately get 100 times dumber
