Columbia University Science Honors Program ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

I just did the same problem in my math team class so I did it in 1 minute
Did not even think

for the age one, did you get 64 or 100 something
heard a lot of conflict on that one

@papercanoe the question where r was the base was 8
@chessmaster1077 It was like 102 or 105 or something like that

the question was: A is 16 years older than B and C
A^2 is 1632 + (B+C)^2

what is A+B+C

@chessmaster1077 yea i got like 102 or smth around there
@CSHP2022 no it was the other question where it was like the equation of a unit circle = r and x + y = r what was r

Oh god i feel like im not gonna get in im like on the cusp of only having 10/11 right ahhhh and i totally bombed the science section

i think i got 1 dont fully remember though @papercanoe

Easy math 50/50 It was easy everyone knows that lol
Science 50-65/75 I guessed a few and apparently I don’t know anything about earth science.
Challenge math 15/15 Didn’t check the answers but pretty confident cuz I did so many math programs and competitions… Qualified for AIME this year so this part took me like 30 mins

Is the science part more weighted or the challenging math more important though? By the way I’m a junior

edit @papercanoe @chessmaster1077 @CSHP2022 ** i got the answer with either Bob or Carol’s age as 0 lol edit **(got 102 as well)

using 0 gets u 102?

yeah lol 43 and 59 are the other ages

^ @chessmaster1077

also how detrimental would you say guessing is to your overall score? i did guess some on a whim, and i guessed a few right and a few wrong ;-;

Hey, maybe they’ll cancel out

Does anyone know how much a wrong answer will cost you? Would it be more or less than a right answer?

@papercanoe i got 2 for that problem
the line was x + y = r, the circle was x^2 + y^2 = r, and they were tangent iirc
then you drew the radius to the line and you got a 45-45-90 triangle whose side lengths were sqrt(r), sqrt(r), and r
you can use that sqrt(r) * sqrt(2) = r using special right triangle, or you can do pythagorean theorem, both work

Hey everyone, I hope you guys did well on the exam, hopefully, we have a chance on getting accepted. Just wondering though, did anyone get their scores? or will they email you your scores?

they will probably send us our acception/rejection letters on june 19, like it says on their website, but as far as scores go, idrk. i think it was mentioned before that they don’t give scores out, but don’t quote me on that

Alright, Ty, I’m thinking some people stayed after the exam for a while waiting to get their scores. but what a day, almost felt like it was a regents exam but a bit more advanced.

I’m 100% sure I bombed my test and won’t make it in this year. I’m a freshman right now, so I still have a couple more tries. Can anyone tell me what I can study (especially in math) so I can get in next year?

@HappyGilmore15 did people stay after though? also haha i’m not a new yorker so can’t relate about regents :))
@56Student2022 i think the math section was basically easy AMC 10/12, or AMC 8 level. there are many past exams and forums on studying for those tests, so look into that. also which problems stumped you? that might give me more insight on what you would want to improve on
