I’m kind of confused. How do we pay the $20 fee by credit card? Is there a link to where we pay for it? Please help, tomorrow’s the deadline. :(

Hey guys! I was in your shoes last year stressing out about the entrance exam, so I just wanted to share my wisdom! Basically, don’t sweat too much about the test. I left at least 1 blank on the simple math section, ~5-8 on the science, and only answered 10/15 challenge math (and I’m not sure if I got all those right…) AND I STILL GOT IN! Conclusion: if you can get those scores, you’ll be fine.

As for the program itself, to be honest, it’s kinda boring. BUT- you get to meet some crazy cool professors and grad students and, of course, a lot of the high schoolers there are impressive beyond belief. I’m one of the top students at my school right now and I can surely say that I’m one of the least accomplished kids in my Columbia class right now. (Not that I care.) Plus, I wouldn’t want to spend my Saturday mornings anywhere else. Columbia is beautiful. :)

Let me know if you have any questions!

Hey guys, this is going to be my 2nd time taking the test. I remember blanking out in the challenge section last year, so i really need some help. Right now i think ill do better since i am taking Alg 2 honors, but still a few questions…first is there a lot of number theory/sequences (arith, geometric)? Is it easier than the AMC 10’s? Can anyone remember a few problems or topics in the challenge section?
thanks very much…

I chose April 2nd as my first choice for the exam, what about you guys?

I chose April 2nd as well.

Entrance tickets become available on the 16th on the admissions site, correct?

From what I remember from last year, yes, the admissions ticket was posted on the application site. Although they may have emailed us…can’t really remember. It was one or the other.

The exam tickets won’t be available till the 20th, so says the email.

I chose the 16th. :P

Looks like the tickets won’t be up until the 20th

Was anybody able to see their tickets on the application site? Because I can’t…

My ticket isn’t up either

yeah neither is mine

oh okay, phew, I was worried for a sec that it was just me lol :P

then does anybody know when it comes up? the entrance ticket and the date..

I still didn’t receive it… what’s going on?! x_x

Mine isn’t up either. Im sure it will be available within the next 2 days.

aw, darn i just posted the 2 questions i remembered from challenge math in another similar forum… i suppose if you click on my avatar it will show you that post.
if you’re wondering about colleges, take this with a grain of salt, but i would almost say that shp is a sort of columbia recruitment thing. that’s not to say that if you get into shp you’ll get in columbia because that is DEFINITELY not the case-- i just mean that it allows them to siphon off the top layer of math/science students in teh area and look for the truly extraordinary ones. last year dr. blaer (the director) found one of hte kids in my cosmology class to personally congratulate him on being an intel finalist and wink wink express his wishes that said kid would seriously consider attending columbia. (said kid now attends yale -_-) oh, well. they tried. it seemed like everyone else in spring cosmology was going to harvard, yale or mit. actually, about half the class was stuy kids who stopped coming after getting into mit early.
does it help? probably.
are there both stupid and brilliant people in every class? you bet.

Oh never mind, I got it. Officially taking it on the 16th xD. I think they made a mistake when they said the 20th because they might not have taken into account daylight savings.

Yes!! They’re out! I’m in room 312; how about you guys?
