Columbia University Science Honors Program ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

@goyala I am in Pupin 301 on April 2nd, I am a Freshman as well

@5461210d Considering many of us are taking the test in 2 days, I doubt that any level of studying will help us at all.

Eh it was worth a shot. I’m taking the test in a week.

Is the test split up in different timed sections like the SAT? Or just like…ready, set, go! and then you do the entire test?

Its split up.
And it doesnt hurt to have a study guide…i mean we all probably studied but looking back at a specific section wont hurt…

To any aopsers out there who’ve taken it, what number range would the math problems correspond to on AMC 10? Any AIME-level?

everybody’s saying the questions in challenge math are about the level of the first 15 questions on AMC10 so if you’re on AOPS you can easily ace it. btw, i go on AOPS too :P

Is there a reference table on the test??? or should i memorize all the equations for physics and chemistry?

also anyone know where i can find some general info about physics that will be helpful for the test?

Room 417

idk about tables…i dont think they do..
and sparknotes/spark charts are a great way to do a quick review..

so if there is no reference table would they ask me questions about things like and expect me to know the equations:
Heat of fusion
Heat capacity of h20
d=m/v
combined gas law

also we can bring our ti-83’s right? (and use them)

No calculators allowed.

What??? no way

can someone tell me how many problems are on the science sections approximately?

On the site, as well as in the e-mail, it says no calculators will be permitted in the exam room.

People in the thread said 75 questions in the science section.

Well, good luck to everyone…

Good luck to everybody taking the test tomorrow! Hope you guys do well! :)

Good luck to myself and the others taking the test tomorrow!

“To any aopsers out there who’ve taken it, what number range would the math problems correspond to on AMC 10? Any AIME-level?”

From past experience, it’s not quite at AIME level (to me last year, the questions were much easier).

My advice to you is to know your probability. I swear, there’ll be at least 3 or 4 questions in the challenge section pertaining to probability.

So how did it go for everyone? 1st part was a breeze, science was a bit hard tho
challenge was ok

About how many questions in the science section pertained to Chemistry and Biology? I didn’t take the exam today, so I’m curious :</p>
