Columbia University Science Honors Program ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

I HATED that question with q and p, spent 20 minutes on that question and didnt even guess

Yes, that was 70.

Here’s a quick way to do the last one (takes a minute at tops):

I don’t remember the problem in it’s entirety, but if you saw this problem, you immediately set up these equations:

3c+7x+p=3.15
4c+10x+p=4.20

(lol I made up random variables).

So first, you subtract equation 2 by equation 1, to get rid of p. Then you have c+3x=1.05. However, we want c+x+p. We have our c with one as its coefficient already, so now we get rid of it in out original equations. We multiply equation 1 by 4, and eq. 2 by 3. We get 2x-p=0, 2x=p. We know c+3x=1.05, so…

c+3x= c+x+(2x)=c+x+p=1.05. I believe that was answer choice D.

i did the same thing, i hope i picked the right answer, whyd i do so bad, i understood all these concepts. btw was the base 10 question base 10?

^same, it looked so easy at first! and then I realized I spent 10 minutes on that one problem and just skipped it :frowning:
@ futuredoctor, lol yeah I had 3 variables. like for the 3 different foods that were purchased.

what did you guys get for the brothers paying 60$ for a boat?

guessed 15 i think

$13.

First Brother: $20
2nd: $15
3rd: $12

What was the crap about x workers in x something with x something, what would y workers have?

uh…guys…the questions are repeated…i dont think u really want to show all the answers, it will lessen your chance of getting in

oh wow I didn’t think they would repeat the test! I mean come on, they’re not dumb enough to think that NO ONE is going share answers right?. it seems pretty obvious that some kids are gonna go home and share stuff with their siblings/friends that are taking it 4/16

Can someone message me what they got for the workers? And also what was the first question again?

Yeah…wasn’t masterofpupets asking for the questions? Stop posting answers and questions. It’s not fair

yea they do recycle the test, even my friend who tried out last year said the science was about 80% the same as last year.
so if u want to get answers message peeps

I had the workers question on my test and I took it in 2009. Careful with what you post.

Perhaps someone should let Dr. Blaer know that his tests are becoming compromised over time. I’m sure a lot of the answers are somewhere in this forum.

^ 2009?! holy crap
sorry guys, I didn’t know! :(

yeah i took it today and i vaguely recognized a few questions from last years test..

Oops. I had no idea. I figured that they wouldn’t repeat it… Sorry guys.

Err… It’s not possible to delete my posts now, is it? :'(

How do most people do on this test? Do most people get over 10, or are all the smart people on this board? I feel like I might be on the borderline, because I answered 10 out of 15 and I’m pretty sure all of them are right. The easy math section: I expect to get all of them right. The science section: I skipped 4. For some of the physics I used math to figure it out. I think I probably got a few wrong though.

i answered 11on challange but guessed on 4! it was a mistake does anyone know the guessing penalty?

Took it yesterday. Does someone who’s sure that they are right want to PM me the answer to the sets question? (so it’s not publicly viewed)

Lol Sophia, im literally in the same position as you are. I answered 11/15 questions with I think all right. Easy math was mostly a breeze. Science i skipped a few and got some wrong as well..
Idk, the people who sat around me answered like 5,6 challenge questions, but then again that probably isnt indicative of everyone.
