Columbia University Science Honors Program ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

Are any of you guys Freshmen?

solarflare if your not doing the program can you let me know?

Yes, I’m a freshman.

And yairnazz, I don’t think it works like that… they’d probably just take the last person to get cut.

if you make it in, do you retake the test again next yr, or are you admitted again automatically?

If you make it once, your good for the rest of your high school years.

did anyone get B for the worker problem?

anyone wanna private message me an answer list for the challenge questions? ill compare answers with you guys.

just curious, did the majority of u guys take all the sciences (earth science, physics, chemistry, and bio)? I only took chemistry and biology… o_O

Never took earth science…and realized i didnt need to study earth science.

hey guys could you sort of “chance” me??
i THINK i aced the first math section, 55/75 on the science section (completely failed this section…), and 13/15 on the challenge math section…
do you guys think i could get in? btw this is my first time as a sophomore :P

yup, you’re in.
i got in with less. i was a freshman, but still… that should be enough.

The sample of applicants on this forum is very skewed. Most people get far fewer than 10, difficult though that may be to believe. I took the test in a large lecture hall 2 years ago and I vaguely remember a proctor saying, “look around you: roughly one person in each row will get in.”

So, the real question is, did you answer more questions than the other people in your row? ;)

BalticSea: how much did you get in with? I’m a sophomore, so would it be harder?

Solarflare: If you click the edit button on your posts, maybe you can change it?

did some people really get just 5 or 6?
I’m really not used to tests where you’re not expected to answer all the questions so challenge section made me feel really really bad lol.

it was kind of unfair that the didn’t tell you how much the penalty is.
there were a bunch of questions where I narrowed it down to two answers but I was too scared to guess because I didn’t know what the penalty was.
if it was only -1/4 like on the SATs, I totally would’ve guessed.

Yea knowing how they graded it would have helped. I doubt the penalty is huge, im pretty sure they just dont want a situation where some kind guesses the whole challenge section and ends up getting 10 of them right.
And yea, i would have felt bad but then again i read this forum and people say answering all 15 is not bad
And yea i swear was at the end of the row collecting the scantrons and i saw like 5 or 6 circles on their sheets…

futuredoctor12, i think i got b for that problem too

and yeah i heard a girl talking about how she had only gotten like 4, but she was sure they were all right. i hope the penalty isn’t too bad because so far i know i got 1 challenge problem wrong :/

For the workers problem, was B y^3/x^2? Because that’s the one I chose… :X

It was B…

@ futuredoctor: yeah I guess that makes sense. and same, reading this forum makes me feel so much better :stuck_out_tongue:
ok I’m going to stop worrying about this because we still have over a month before the results and I might just go nuts if I keep thinking about it…

also: guys STOP posting answers, it hurts your chances!
private messages are there for a reason :)

If anyone thinks that they got the right answer for the worker problem, it would help because im freaking out about that one because i only answered around 10 of them and thats one of them, so if you dont wanna post it on the forum, you can private message me. If you wanna talk about the test more, just private message me.

BTW=I’m a freshman so I just want some assurance! lolll
