Columbia University Science Honors Program ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

Sorry, but I am nearly 100% sure it was a unit change. If the units were the same, it wouldn’t really be a challenge problem. I’ll ask a few of my friends too.

Yeah i’m pretty sure the one with the cube was 864, because the surface area was in inches. The kid next to me got the same thing…

I think I put 10a/r for the feet to yards one too

How would keeping the units different make it a challenge problem? All it does is simply catch people who don’t read questions as carefully as others or maybe are a bit overconfident. That doesn’t have anything to do with ability. If they wanted to separate the levels further, the questions could have been made harder instead of more annoying.

now i dont think im gonna make it in :(

@starwing agreed

can i get how many u guys got right now that we have conversed

yes I got 864
and 10a/r

what was 25 for??

I think I got 10 or 11?

13 right and 2 wrong.

i think i got 10 or 11

@thehutis: answer my PM!

13 right, two wrong

Run down:
Easy Math: Easy, but mad tricky, especially the graphs. Might have gotten a few wrong.
Science: Guessed on way too many problems, probably will bring me down.
Challenge: Easier than I expected, answered all 15… just barely.

I probably got 2-3 wrong and people are telling me that the volume-surface area problem had different units, so I guess the answer 6 is wrong.

Anyone get 2.5 for question 15? (Last problem I did, kinda rushed).

I was there today and you guys make me so worried about how I did.

I thought for the probability question that is said it was less than 100 not equal to…

hahah yea me too…I’m pretty sure I did fine, but i have this lingering pit in my stomach that I didn’t make the cut… :(

yeah, doesn’t everyone? It was just so stressful, especially with so many of us crammed in a room with miniature, super, low, half desks… >.<

I realized I made so many stupid mistakes after reading some of the explanations of the answers in this thread…

idk…my friends already in and he told me that im probably in as well

Good luck to everyone…:slight_smile:
Oh and the weather’s been dreary lately too.

Okay, this is my projected results:

48 or 49/50 for easy math
60-65/75 science
11 or 12/ 15

My chances :frowning: ?

For the cube problem I got 864. x^3= 6*(12x)^2. :P
