Columbia University Science Honors Program ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

<p>I know a lot of people in the 10th grade that took it who did fairly poorly on the science (they did not take physics) and on the challenge math. </p>

<p>Also, most people in my room only got like 5-6 challenge questions right, so CC is a bad polling sample.</p>

<p>@morpheus - the solution is in the thread somewhere. basically u can only get -1 or 1 for each one so getting -2 or +2 would be impossible. the solution is maybe like 5 pages back</p>

<p>anyone know what the answer was to the science question with the two towers and the 550 cycles per second and the speed of sound being 1100 feet per second?</p>

<p>consider a=1,b=1,c=-1?</p>

<p>1/1+1/1±1/1+(1+1-1)/|1+1-1|=1+1-1+1+2</p>

<p>@daniel: That’s a physics prob;</p>

<p>speed = wavelength x frequency;
1100= wavelength x 550
wavelength = 2</p>

<p>But i believe there was more to this problem</p>

<p>What happens if you totally bombed the science section?
does it matter as much as the math part, becuz think i did okay on the math..</p>

For some reason I definitely remember circling E for that question but only vaguely remember the number</p>

so if the wavelength is 2, which i calculated, would the distance (which i think the problem was asking for) be 10? i think there was like 5 circles around the epicenter</p>

<p>In terms of deduction. I think it’s -1/3 for first 2 sections and -1/4 for challenge math…? Idk the ppl at schermerhorn basically said, “the fair deduction… you go figure it out.”</p>

<p>The test on the 2nd is definitely different than the one on the 16th. I’m guessing the one on the 16th was easier (or at least the challenge math) because it seems most people answered 13-15. Most people answered 10-12 on the 2nd. Hopefully, they do the same thing they do with the SAT.</p>

<p>I think it will probably be like AIME. This year, AIME I was sooooo much worse than AIME II but it’s just the luck of the draw.</p>

<p>do they actually consider your grades and gpa?</p>

<p>your test scores matter the most, they mostly only look at that</p>

<p>How prestigious is this program? Will it be helpful in getting in to ivies and other top 10 college?</p>
