Columbia University Science Honors Program ENTRANCE EXAMINATION

the question was how many had at least one side painted?

yea one of the answers was 10a/r

i knew the answer to the question was either 10a/r or 10r/a… i should have taken the risk and chose one of them for a 50/50 chance of getting 14 correct >_>

what was the question to that though?

it was the one about a plane, i think? :

Do I have any chance of getting in with 9/15 correct and 2 wrong? /:

i think it really depends on how well u did on the other sections too.

yeah, i remember other posts that had 7-9 on challenge but they did really well on the easy math and science so they got in :P

15 on challenge math
~50 on easy math
(30-40)/75 …science

expected on test

chances please

@bballbro i’m sort of in the same situation as u.
13 on challenge math
~50 on easy
(45-50)/75
i think we have a decent chance at the program because we got high scores on the math, good luck!

now that i think about it… why is everybody saying a high challenge math score will get you in? is there any evidence that supports this claim? because previous posts show kids with low challenge but high science scores getting in, not the other way around :

Everyone emphasizes the challenge portion the most, but guys bear in mind, its called Columbia SCIENCE honors program. They definitely want you to have the basics down in science.
Every application is different. Masterofpuppets, they will see that you have only taken a few science classes, and so they will realize that the reason why you didnt do as well as others on science is because u just havent learned that much yet.
I wouldnt sweat it that much. a 13/15 on the challenge is superb, and might make up for the science section.

how bout me?
btw i am a freshman…will my 15 on challenge math make up for my failure on the science part

So I love how they put Algebra I stuff on it (like the sets and whatnot), I don’t even remember that stuff… that was like 3 and a half years ago  and I only got 11/15 on the Challenge Section. I really hope I get in though…

hey guys, if there’s a cutoff for the challenge math… does that mean there could also be a cutoff for the science? like if we don’t get a certain score on the science, then we might not be considered? or is it all the sections x_x ugh i’m such a nervous wreck right now lol

There is no cutoff point for any section. When people say things like “10+ right or you probably wont get in”, its not official its just the trend. They arent going to turn you down just because you did poorly on one section of the test, which you have a valid reason in not doing so well.
I dont want to jinx it or anything, but im pretty sure you got in.

um, for my essay i talked about my music interests rather than my math and science interests because on the description it said “interests and background in math and science”. i thought it meant interests in general… how much will this affect me? :

i talked about how i went from 70s in 7th and 8th grade algebra to high 90s in 10th grade and became AMC 12 school winner and one of the top math/science students.

that’s actually my life story too lol. i remember failing the first 2 math tests in 8th grade algebra, but now i get ace all math tests, occasional 98-99, and i became AMC10 school winner this year and was just 1.5 points away from making aime :stuck_out_tongue: i don’t know why i didn’t mention any of that stuff on my essay… but do you think me talking about guitars and a small description of math and science will hurt my chances? o_O

15 on challenge math
50 - easy math
(50-60)/75 - science

Chances?
