I think I totally botched that test. The proctors in my room were really stressing the fact that if you didn’t know an answer to just leave it blank since there was a penalty for wrong answers but no penalty for blank answers. Keeping that in mind, I skipped anything that I was like “what the heck?”. Since I am prone to stupid and careless mistakes, I factored that into the below
:

Science: 70/75
Easy Math: 45/50
Challenge Math: 10/20 (This one meaning I answered 10 questions but I have honestly no clue how many I got wrong
)

I’m a freshman. Obviously I’m not getting in this year (I don’t mind), but what I really want to know is if the tests are pretty much the same year after year. If that’s the case, then I know I should do a million AMC problems because this year, I mainly studied science but the science was so ridiculously easy.

When you guys opened the easy math, did anyone laugh at the first problem? Everyone in my room was laughing. And was anyone else disturbed by the teensy little board that was our “desk”? :P

Cheer up dude, everyone here still has a shot. Were all stressing out the same as you.

I answered 15/20 of the challenge math section, 70/75 of the science section, and all of the easy math section. If i got two of the science section that i answered wrong, 2 of the easy math section wrong, and i got all of the challenge math section that I answered right, and i am a freshman, what do you think my chances of getting in are?

No one knows. Please stop asking and just wait.

Will your essays and Teacher’s recommendation count at all, or is it simply your scores on the test? I am a freshman and I totally messed up my science section on physics. Surprisingly I did well on the hard math section. Are these sections weighted differently?

From what I’ve heard, the entrance exam counts the most. Obviously, they must consider the other parts of the application, but I’m guessing there’s a cut-off score for the exam. I’m not sure if the sections are weighted differently b/c they never release any info about the exam or how it’s graded, so I can’t answer that part.

Thanks for the info. Maybe the recommendation letters and essys are used as tie-breakers?

Why are they concentrating so much on Physics and there were barely any questions in Biology?

Because Bio is easy.

I think they’re kind of gonna use it to weed out people with no knowledge of physics. Then again, thats just my opinion and idk what’s really gonna happen.

guys chill…it’s not that hard to get in…and if you don’t get in as a freshman it’s not the end of the world…

I’m a sophomore. How much weight do they put on the transcript, because im pretty sure i did really good on that entrance exam, but my grades in school are all only around 93.

Im starting to freak out!! Only 10 more days!
So does anyone know how long it takes for the letter to come? Because they say that we will be notified on the 20th. Does that mean they send it out on the 19th?

Or do they send it out on the 20th and we get it on the 21st or 22nd?

From previous posts, everyone said that the letter comes a couple days after the 20th like the 24th or 25th. I would probably be freaking out too, but i’m so busy studying for finals!

I thought they send you an email. Or do you login to check results? If you were a SHP student last year, are grandfathered in or do they retake the test s well?

I heard that there are a total of about 400 openings. Is this true? If so, how many new applicants do they accept each year?

oh snap 3 more days

Since scores are going to be coming in soon, I thought I would post this now.

To help the next generation of SHPers including those who didn’t get in this year, I thought it would be nice to have everyone who tried out this year to post his or her results and a score estimate.

From this, I just want to see if the rumors that the decision is actually based solely on test scores is true, and if there was a cutoff for this year.

Here is a code everyone can use to make things easier. If you don’t remember your scores, see if you posted it in this thread before.

[noparse]
**Decision: Accepted**
**Decision: Rejected**

[ul]

[li] Science: /75
[/li]

[li] Easy math: /50
[/li]

[li] Challenge math: /20 or /15
[/li]

[li] Total: /145 or /140
[/li]

[li] **Percent: %**
[/li]

[/ul]
[/noparse]

I feel silly for asking this, but once we get our scores, how do we use the code?

oh okay, so there’s this thing called BB code, which allows you to format your text (here’s the [link](http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/misc.php?do=bbcode)) <– I was able to make this word blue and hyperlinked because I used BB code, specifically the url code.

So i thought it would be a good idea to format everyone’s decision posts so that it would be easier to see who got in, who didn’t, and what their scores look like. I got this idea from the college decision threads. You can see an example of a post with such formatting [url=<a href=“Official Columbia University 2016 RD Results - Columbia University - College Confidential Forums”>Official Columbia University 2016 RD Results - Columbia University - College Confidential Forums]here[/url].

All you have to do is delete either the line with the decision “accepted” or “rejected”, and then type in your scores before the slash or percent sign. To calculate the percent… well I hope you know how to do that :)

well… columbia just sent an email saying that scores won’t get in until after July 11th… :(
