Does anyone know that if you handed your recommendation a little late if they reject you automatically?

Does anyone have the statistics on how many people applied this year. 1 week is a long time to send out the letters.

^ i heard that they put the statistics on the letter.
so to anyone that already got it, what did it say?

@ccLiuLiu i dont think so. i have a feeling that they take a look at your test scores first and then if it seems that you can qualify, then they look at the other aspects of the app

it just seems strange that by now, no one has posted that they were accepted?
DOES ANYONE HAVE FRIENDS WHO REC’D AN ACCEPTANCE LETTER? My letter hasn’t come yet and I am a rising junior (just finished 10th) My 2 friends both were not accepted.

pokemonwhite^ where do you live? (what region)

On the letter it says that out of 2000 applicants, 400 were chosen to the program.

Then it has some stats comparing this years’ applicants to a national sample of college freshmen who took the same test.

nyc
i tried out last yr as a freshman & didnt get in.
i do remember people were posting right away that they got in, and just think it is strange no one has come forward yet to post that they got in

I agree, like last year so many people were like
" I got accepted yeah!"
or
“w.e. idc anymore…”
But this year, the response is so.. quiet.
Maybe its because like the columbia shp place is sending results in ‘batches’

yes, but still, there should be some people who have been accepted by now

Anyone that got accepted please tell us t^t

Yes please do.. Anyone else thinking (hoping) that maybe the rejections were sent out first?

ugh this is getting ridiculous! my sister (rising 10) got her letter two days ago (rejection, but we were all expecting that). I’m a rising 11 and I haven’t received anything! WE LIVE IN THE SAME HOUSE. I have no idea what’s going on…

ps: we live in the NYC area, as well.

well thats odd… unless you made it.. then the rejections are being sent first…
or it could just be totally random… (which at this point, im more likely to believe)

we know there has to be some “sorting” by grade first b/c we know that the freshman get a better curve than sophomores, and so on.
they also have a certain # they cap it at so they have new freshman to take the previous freshman class, so new sophomores to fill in the ones that are already in as a freshman etc..
it would make sense that since they know how many they want in each grade and have their acceptances and rejections (by grade) that those are sent out by grade.
BUT, this theory doesnt hold true b/c my 2 friends are also 10th graders and they got their rejection letters. One of them has a younger brother (living in the same house) and the older brother got the rejection letter, but the younger one hasnt rec’d anything yet.
It would be nice (for those of us who havent been rejected yet) to think the acceptances are going out last–but i know they didnt do it that way last year.

randomly, does anyone think the late send-out had to do with the change from the director being Allan Blair to Jeremy Dodd? I think Allan Blair was the professor who started the program, but in the “update” email that was sent out telling all about the delay in acceptances and rejections he was listed as “Professor Emeritus” and Jeremy Dodd was the current professor in charge. Maybe that could have contributed to the confusion?

but going with the idea of acceptance letters being sent out later than the rejections… has anyone on this thread received an acceptance letter or know of someone who has received an acceptance letter? i’m surprised that even people in the manhattan area haven’t received their letter… so maybe this theory is true?

and i just realized that we’re obsessing over letters. this feels like harry potter ;)

this sounds sad, but maybe they had so many good candidates that they have to make a “second cut” and that’s why they are sending them out in batches like everyone says.
and yes, it does seem that the delay from the original date and the way the letters are being sent out is due to the new head of the program

@fieldsofpoppy.
LOL, so true… that made me laugh. Ive tried to not obsess, but i cant help it!

From this discussion it looks like they are going by grade with freshman being notified the last. It also looks like acceptances are sent out later than rejection letters, since so far more people have been rejected than accepted. But if they are accepting 400 candidates, the number of people on this thread is a very small sample population, so I might be completely wrong.

I haven’t received mine yet and I live in central jersey.
