Columbia University Transfer Thread Fall 2019

Accepted to Columbia College!!! I am somehow both excited and scared out of my mind, especially with the social aspect! Does anyone know about a Facebook page or something like that where we can talk to other transfers?

Accepted for Columbia College too! Emailed the Admissions Committee yesterday and they said there is no official facebook page for transfer students, but transfers are welcomed to join their class (Class of 2021/2022) FB page, which is official.
That being said, does anyone know/has created a FB page for transfer students? Thanks a lot!

Waitlisted.Congratulations to y’all who got in Columbia! I wonder what is the deadline for y’all to decided whether to attend this school and to submit the deposit. Thanks.

@Yasmine2333 also waitlisted… did you submit your final transcript?

yes

@Yasmine2333 the deadline for us to accept our place in the transfer class was May 24! Our housing applications were also due June 1.

I was accepted to Columbia!!! I know this seems like a crazy decision, but I am trying to decide between Columbia and the University of Michigan. Michigan has a much better program in my field and interest, but Columbia is the better school overall. Any advice is welcome.

Just curious, were you accepted off the waitlist or with regular admission? Go with the place that would help you the most. Maybe that’s the place with the better program, or perhaps it’s the city you need. I wouldn’t pick Columbia if the only reason to do so is for its clout (which may or may not be applicable for your field).

Congratulations on both your acceptances! When picking schools, fit is easily the most important thing. And that can’t be gauged by rankings or prestige. Pick the place that is better for YOU. In this case, it sounds like Mich would clearly be the better option for you. But the best way to make a decision as big as this would be to go to both schools and talk to people from both schools to get the best idea. Either way, both are amazing schools and you’re going to be just fine. Good luck!

@GotRejected I was admitted regular admission, but haven’t been on CC in a while because I was having a problem with someone who was attacking me on everything I posted. It was pretty vicious, so I just avoided the site for awhile.

@anonymous1423 Thank you! Michigan is a hard sell right now, because they have given me full funding (no loans), I was accepted into their undergraduate research for the year, accepted into a selective mentoring program, and have previously done research there with a Pulitzer Prize winning author who is also in my field. Additionally, I will be teaching creative writing and poetry in prisons starting in fall and am on the lit review board for a journal published through the University.

Currently, I do not have anything set up at Columbia and likely won’t be able to set anything up until I transfer.

Columbia is finally cutting people from the waitlist, I finally got rejected today. Did anyone get accepted off the waitlist?

Can you please post the Columbia-transfer specific questions? I’m applying for Fall 2020 and really want a head start on them. Please post if you remember! Thanks

For those of you reading this thread, if you are a military veteran or have taken more than a year off school, I HIGHLY encourage you to look into Columbia School of General studies before applying to any of the other schools.

Did you get in? Can people who got in please share their stat? I’m a freshman looking to considering in applying for Fall 2020 and would really appreciate it if people who got in last year share their stats!
