Columbia University Transfer Thread Fall 2019

@jasontrang omg same— I’ve known since April 4 about NYU. I was waitlisted at Barnard last week tho, so I feel like Columbia is going to be an automatic rejection! Maybe not tho, who knows!

what time this friday would it come out?

a week before decisions came out last year the portal apparently told everyone the day it would be out! but there was nothing on our portal so would it really come out Friday

@taylor99 I’m in the same position as you! I’m stressed because Barnard waitlisted me and even though I’ve got NYU, Columbia is stressing me out the most. Maybe Barnard waitlisted me because I applied for their CS program and they thought that what I really want to do is go to Columbia, even though going to Barnard would be surreal!

@techsavvygirl Wow. We are in the EXACT same position.

Last year Columbia notified applicants on 4/27 for a 5/4 release. The year before, they notified 4/28 for a 5/3 release. Going off that precedent, it seems unlikely we find out this Friday

@brandonbko That’s good to know… but why is this year taking longer? This wait is agonizing.

I have a feeling that we’ll be notified 05/08…in the past two years applicants were notified on a Wednesday…

@jasontrang That’s false, last year was friday

Hi all, I’m looking for thoughts. A few days ago I got an email from a Dean (later found out to be the Director of Transfer Admission.) He asked me for two things - one is to provide the time commitment of an activity on my application’s experience section, which I didn’t write about in my essays because it’s unrelated to the topics. And then he mentioned that the question of whether I’m in good academic standing was left blank in my college report and he thought it was an oversight. He wanted me to ask my school to send him the answer to that question.

I think it was quite abnormal. If they simply wanted additional information, why wouldn’t they just have an admission officer contact me? I’ve tried not to read too much into it, but I can’t stop mulling over why the Director would ask for that specific question to be filled if they didn’t want to take me. This is my dream school and I’m now really nervous about the result. It’s been bothering me more than I imagined.

@uqsujuj I think it’s a good sign probably. I’m assuming you have good grades, and the fact that the activity they called you about caught their attention means they’re really looking into your application and not brushing it over.

@uqsujuj I would bet you are in, being requested additional materials at the last moment before result release. Please do come back to update! Good luck!

Hi everyone - a senior admissions officer emailed me last week asking for my mid-semester grades (somehow they didn’t receive it the first time I submitted it). Do you think this is a good sign?

@stressedhelpme As this is a required document, this could be a good sign. Columbia tried to check off documents for all candidates when they start the reviewing process. But at this point, you got this message means they still consider you. Good luck!

@stressedhelpme I saw in thread of GS transfer last year, several students were requested of their spring grade one week before they got accepted. So definitely it is a good sign! Good luck!

I do not think that we will be notified on friday. If they are still trying to acquire missing documents, then the decisions have not been finalized

I guess this will be confirmed tomorrow. I cannot handle the wait!!!

why tomorrow? @prepboybic

Yeah why would it be confirmed tomorrow?

Tomorrow is definitely not Friday lol @prepboybic . I think that we’ll probably receive an email next Wednesday (5/8) with the time and date our decision will be released, which will most likely be the following Friday (5/10).

Hey guys,

When I said tomorrow, I was referencing the email that gets sent informing applicants when the decisions will be released.

If we don’t get it within 24 hours then the decisions will not be out Friday.
