@columbia20000024 I think they already have a list prepared of who they want to accept off the waitlist so it may come today!
Has anyone gotten an answer? Or does anyone know if they even released decisions today?
wow columbia, you really did it ??ââď¸ donât do it again
Sorry might be a dumb question but what do you mean exactly?
Do you think they might release decisions on Monday considering they didnât on Friday (May 15) or rather maybe theyâll release it Friday(May 22)?
I think they have made their decisions on who will be offered already. Someone here said that before as well. No point sending anything new unless itâs earth-shattering! Next week should be interesting as it hits their formal timeline for decision release.
Not sure if this was posted before - https://columbiachronicle.com/columbia-anxious-while-optimistic-for-fall-2020-enrollment-despite-predictions-of-national-decline
May be enrollment is good after all given the extra 220 they took initially and then the tiny waves we all have been hearing about. They told me stay patient and that is really how the game is played perhaps. Wait until end of June. There may be no big waves.
Itâs from Columbia College Chicago, not Columbia University.
You are right! Sorry!
Maybe a stupid question, but will we be notified if we DONâT get in? Or only if we do?
They will release aka reject people from the waitlist on a rolling basis as well usually towards the end of the span of time that they are accepting off the waitlist. Some will then be put on the extended waitlist usually.
I donât think they have a list of people they will admit right off the bat. They donât rank the waitlist, and itâs really done on a person-to-person basis. Like, if x amount of history majors from Europe deferred enrollment to next year, they are going to look to admit x amount of that group off the waitlist. I donât think they know exactly who they want yet. Of course, I could be completely wrong, thatâs just what Iâve heard about the waitlist process from college counselors.
I know a pair of twins who got off the waitlist last week (not sure the exact date). So Columbiaâs probably moving through them this week too.
@chickennoodlesoupppppp where did you get that info?
they 100% rank the waitlist lol. i dont even know why they say they donât. my friend got an email from cornell who âdoesnât rank,â saying she was âat the top of the waitlist.â iâm sure the people who are getting off have already had their files set aside
This doesnât mean they rank it. That phrase has like 3 meanings, one of which could be that she just was a much better candidate.
Some colleges have a âpriority waitlistâ but they donât rank every candidate. It doesnât even make sense to rank the waitlist- they have to fill certain diversity quotas, so they will go off of those quotas rather than strictly who is a âbetterâ student.
Yeah I think what people misunderstand what a ranked waitlist is. A ranked waitlist is one where the 3000 or whatever people are ranked from 1 to 3000, and if there are 200 spots the first 200 get off. College waitlists usually are not ranked, which means they can adjust who they take based on geography or gender or race or major or any aspect of things. It doesnât mean there arenât applicants who have a better chance of getting off than others.
Itâs already been five days since May 15th, which is when they should have started releasing decisions. Has anyone gotten in yet?
donât they only release on fridays?
