Columbia University Waitlist 2024 Discussion

Also, on your application status page, does it show if you completed your LOCI additionally to the waitlist response form? I submitted mine and got an email confirmation but my status page only shows my waitlist response form with a green check. Is it supposed to be like that?

Your application status page won’t show your LOCI but as long as you received the confirmation email it means they received your letter so you’re all good!

Thanks! Hopefully they release more decisions today and over the next week:)

hi guys, there was a round yesterday and their deadline to reply is May 29th so that is probably when the next wave will be

Who knows? If they haven’t finished filling seats which we hope is the case then I don’t see why they would wait until June. Anyways, let’s pray ??

Hey everyone, I got off the waitlist for Columbia engineering on May 8, I’m a little late to announce that but I just came on here because I was curious as to how other waitlist applicants have been doing throughout this process. I’m from Florida also. I’m so ecstatic about being able to go :))

Question: Since it’s this late, is it even worth contacting admissions regarding my waitlist offer?
***posted this somewhere in a more general Columbia forum on accident bc idk how to work this website, but I’d love feedback from you guys, who were the original addressees lol

Hey, guys, I just joined this thread because I’m currently agonizing over my college decision. I applied to Columbia through the QuestBridge regular decision program and was waitlisted. However, amidst to the chaos and uncertainty surrounding COVID-19, the transition to virtual learning, and my mom losing her job, the prospect of even considering Columbia as a serious college option was dismal, so I never responded to the waitlist offer. I realize now that the April 23rd and May 1st deadlines for the supplemental interest letter and waitlist decision form, respectively, have come and gone, so I completely understand if it isn’t possible to accept a spot now, but I am still very interested in Columbia. I have a couple of questions, but the main one for you guys is whether it is even worth contacting Columbia about my situation to see whether I could accept my spot on the waitlist. I normally wouldn’t even consider contacting after the deadline, but the combination of the unprecedented global circumstances and the fact that they accept off the waitlist until June 30th (ish?? not sure) and don’t rank waitlisted applicants made me wonder if it may be worth a shot. Thoughts?

Additionally, if you accept your spot on the waitlist and get an offer to attend, is it binding? Financials were the deciding factor in committing to the university I did, so if accepting a spot on the waitlist without first being able to see the financial aid package is a binding decision, that sadly won’t be an option for my family.

Please let me know what you guys think! I obviously won’t get my hopes up at even still being allowed to accept a spot on the waitlist, but it’s such a huge opportunity that I felt like I’d regret if I didn’t even try to explore the option.

@whelay9462

You could certainly email your admissions officer and ask (no harm in trying), but at this point I wouldn’t expect much.

If you accept your spot on the waitlist and get an offer to attend, you have around a week? (I think) to accept or decline that offer. So it’s not binding.

Absolutely do so! Email them, call them or both. Just make sure they are aware of your circumstances which are clearly extenuating enough for you to get an extra few weeks to turn in a letter of continued interest. Just make sure you are concise, straight-to-the-point and show a clear link between these circumstances and why you couldn’t/ didn’t submit in time. Reinstate that you would totally attend if admitted and that even though you were not able to show it, your interest in Columbia is very high.

And no, it’s not binding. If and when they accept you, they’ll give you one week to decide whether to accept their offer.

Remember it’s not a machine who runs admissions to Columbia, it’s human beings who can understand and empathize with your circumstances.

Aight best of luck everybody!!! I’m with you still in the limbo

do you guys think there will be acceptances this week?

@columbia20000024 there might be a small chance <5% but I doubt it. I suggest you get excited with the school you’re committed to (watch vlogs, find roommates) now. If u so get taken off the waitlist, great! But I wouldn’t get my hopes up - being realistic

Hope today many can be released from the Waitlist.

I hope so too

Released as in accepted?

Anyone got in?

It appears as it no wave came out today.

I think it will be a while before another wave comes out, and that wave will most likely be very small. A friend of mine who is going to columbia shared the leaked plan with me. It seems like everyone will live in a dorm by themselves and there will be staggered semesters. So they absolutely cannot over-admit, because that would create a health risk since it’s guaranteed on campus housing. I think it’s safe to assume that they will be very careful in the number of waitlist admits, and may just leave some of the spots open. It may be best for us to mentally move on and get excited about the schools we are going to.

Someone on reddit said that the class was full (they heard from an AO), but there’s no proof

That would be hard to believe, because it would mean every person single person taken off the waitlist accepted their offer, that was due 5/29. Wow

The class is not full, the admissions officer told me today that they’re still deciding Who to pick and everyone will be notified of their status before June 30th (like it says on the portal)

But that’s ages to be honest…
