I have a question. What happens if an international student applies for his I20 with the University he committed to attend and then he gets off the waitlist? Will there be any problems with his new university?
I canāt be sure) itās a waitlist. But I did speak to the former admissions dean at Columbia, she said That EACH AO has their own waitlist from which they pick people. So even though it might look full I still thick there are some spots left.
One of the reasons is that a guy on Reddit said that his AO confirmed the class is full (heās from the US) although my AO said on the same day that theyāre still deciding (Iām international). So in my subjective opinion I think that US citizens spots are full and theyāve only started reviewing internationals right now.
I really doubt an AO came out and officially said that because they usually donāt ever say the class is completely full until they absolutely have to and an email has already been sent. To me it seems like another instance of people lying. It happened in the Dartmouth waitlist thread and it most likely will happen again.
What did your AO say verbatim? the one who supposedly said the class is full said āwe are still considering students from the waitlist, though our class currently remains fullā. So technically they just implied that any acceptances are quite unlikely right now
Thatās not the point of my message. The point is that each AO has their own waitlist and that there not much point to ask them about the status of the class because theyāre only responsible for the part of it.
My AO said: Thank you for your email! We expect to notify applicants of their status on the waitlist no later than June 30th. I understand that this is difficult with the visa process, but unfortunately we canāt say for certain when we will know the final status of our class.
@stefantalpa Where are you from? Iām also an international student and I heard that some students from my area got off the wait list. But I havenāt heard much about international students
Very likely that some people have accepted at multiple schools and will play the waiting game to see what each school will do with online/on campus. Only then will they decide to commit to only one. Soā¦the waitlist may live until those announcementsā¦or if and when the second wave of COVID-19 hits NYC, the decision to study in NYC may changeā¦
I agree that there should be more waves into summer, but hopefully thereās a wave today if people didnāt accept the offer by 5/29, or if people that were already committed got off the waitlists at schools like Harvard, Yale, Cornell, Brown, especially if they are scared or hesitant of coming to NYC as things stand.
well based on patterns, columbia had a first wave on 5/8, skipped a week, had another wave 5/22 and skipped a week again, making today a probable wave. but with uncertainty in nyc, I think they will def have more waves in the summer if people drop out due to a second covid wave or if columbia goes online.
Keep in mind that Columbia will let students know what the plans are for 2020-21 School Year on July 1 or thereabout. People may make changes according to the announcement.
Columbia is limited with Freshmen room spaces. With COVID-19, there is no telling what the situation will be like.
Once the final plan for 2020 is announced, there may be a lot of gap requests if it will be online. Hold strong WLers! If it is on campus, once you are there I imagine it will be pretty safe. But you have to get there and back and what a pity it would be to be in NYC and not be able to move around at all! Or even worse, you catch it and you must be quarantined ā or the second wave comes and you cannot leave for a whileā¦
