Ha - I feel like this time of year we need a “Housing” section on CC!

It’s looking like D and a fellow graduate will be relocating to Columbus for jobs. Yeah! It was her 1st choice city. :)

They are looking for a 2 bedroom apt. in the Northern suburbs (?) - she mentioned Worthington, Westerville, Gahanna areas. Looking for something safe, decent neighborhood, not too expensive, some amenities and youthful.

While I am somewhat familiar with Columbus, it’s mostly from the business side, not the residential side. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I live in Gahanna, have for the last 15 years so feel free to PM me and I will try to help. Gahnna is great in terms of location. You are right near the expressway to go downtown or anywhere in Columbus for that matter. There is some airplane noise from being near the airport but I really didn’t notice it after the first few days. It is safe, great neighborhoods, we love it.

In terms of apartment complexes, I like Arbors of Gahanna, a 1 bedroom is around $530. The ones at Easton are terribly expensive in my mind. I would also stay away from Hunters Ridge apartments. The Villages at Preserve Crossing are really nice from what I have heard.

abasket, looks like you’ve got a “location expert” in lammb66! I heartily second Gahanna we rented there briefly when we were between houses 10 years ago, and you can’t beat the location.

Bumping for anyone else who might have suggestions.

D and friend seem to be looking at Gahanna, Upper Arlington, Worthington or Westerville or things closeby. Looking for safe, small downtown area with cafes, shops would be nice. Some young people around too.

It is overwhelming to start looking online. :(

Congratulations to your daughter on finding a job in Columbus! It is a wonderful city with so much to offer. If she is interested in an older part of town, there are lots of young people who like the Grandview area, the Short North, and also German Village. My son who recently moved to Columbus as a graduate student lives in the Italian Village/Short North area and is very happy. He found his apartment on Craigs’ l**t because they go very quickly because there are so many young people moving here. BTW, getting around Columbus is very easy, so she will have access to all the neighborhoods with no problem.

Funny HeartArt, D mentioned Grandview on the phone tonight! Short North is an awesome area - we spent some time there last summer, but I think since she will be working closer to the suburbs, she prefers to live out a bit and then drive into town for entertainment on the weekends and such.

I look forward to exploring more of Columbus when she gets there! I go there a few times a year, but often just for a day of business so I mostly see the inside of someone’s office!

abasket,
The thing that is so attractive about Grandview is that it is literally a small town in the middle of the city. There are quaint streets with craftsmen style houses, a downtown with lovely shops and restaurants, lots of apts with many students (mostly graduate) from OSU and it is only minutes from downtown and the campus area. All the other places she is looking at are lovely too, but I do have a special place in my heart for Grandview. I hope she will love Columbus as much as I do!

p.s. I thought of one more important piece of information about Grandview. It is an unbelievably safe place to live! The police are excellent and there is very little crime. Having a daughter, it’s something I’m sure you worry about.
