for my common app essay I wrote about how I came to be interested in North Korea and how it has been my passion (reason why I want to become a diplomat or work to improve conditions in North Korea)

in a sense, it’s very similar to what the usc essay is asking for (major and how I became interested it and how I’m going to pursue it at usc)
what do I do? It’ll be redundant if I write about the same thing again but I can’t make anything else up. Help??

SAME HERE! My personal statement for the SCA Critical Studies major is VERY similar to my Common App statement. Both basically ask why I want to transfer and why XX will help me achieve my goals…

My personal statement for critical studies pretty much covers everything I need to say on why I want to transfer and everything leading up to it. I’m guessing that for the specific major, you can talk about the department, faculty members, and get much more specific, which is what I did. I mentioned specific faculty members and the research that is being done and how I want to someday be a part of it.

I agree with DJ here. My suggestion to OP would be to make it USC specific for your USC essay-- what in particular does USC offer that helps your goals. For example, take a look at the course guide, major requirements, and faculty information (look at their bios and see what they are working on) and see what you could get from studying XXX at USC.
