Hey! So I have more than 5 awards, and I was wondering if it was possible to combine some of them! I have them like this right now:
- Winner Nat’l Science Contest (don’t want to name for identity reasons)
- XXXXX High School Awards: Most Outstanding Chemistry (2014) and Biology (2015) Student, Award for Junior with Highest Academic Standing in English (2015)
- 2nd Place in XXXX Library Writing Contest (2014, 15)
- Nat’l Merit Semifinalist (Yes, I’m sure. I had a 237 PSAT
) (2015)
- Jacobs Award: Scholarship to the highest GPA in XXXXX HS Freshman Class (2013)
Even now, I have to leave off AP Scholar w/ distinction, honour roll, NHS and student of the month in multiple classes because I figure that’ll be dealt with elsewhere. But can I combine the school awards like I did in number 2? Thanks!
Yes. You can combine ECs in the activities section too.
unless notation recommendations have changed…I would use your class status (9,10,11,12) instead of the calendar year to indicate when you received the award.
Not to be incredulous at all, but do you have previous experience with this? (I’m really not trying to be snarky and I appreciate any and all input
I was just wondering what perspective your suggestion came from! (And I’ll probably use it, as it takes less characters) @WhataProcess
I’m mostly just a mom (but also an ivy grad and a science professional if that helps).
I’ve helped my older 2 children through the CommonApp/resumes, etc (2 & 3 yrs ago for common app), and will be working with 2nd two next year.
I think the grade notation is easier for AOs to quickly understand. If you indicate a calendar year, they have to ‘calculate’ if they wish to understand what grade it was, but they can’t know it was spring of 10th grade or fall of 11th grade. Maybe not a big deal, but if you give the grade designation it’s perfectly clear.
@WhataProcess thanks! That does make total sense
