i am wondering how funny your comedic has to be? i am thinking of doing silvia from two gentlemen, and her monologue isn’t really funny, but it is not dramatic; and the play is considered a shakespeare comedy. is that ok? or should i find something that is really comical?

You need to find monologue(s) that you can perform well and that you relate to. If you need 2 monologues, they should be contrasting. It doesn’t matter if your lighter monologue is not hysterically funny – it’s actually more difficult to deliver something subtle, and college faculty members will appreciate that.

I totally agree with Onstage. In addition, research what different programs are looking for. Some programs do not want anything from Shakespeare, for others it is fine. Main thing is to be prepared and know your audience. Good luck!
