Comet Neowise. Exciting!

Went down to the lake and finally saw it - even with our light pollution.

Still haven’t seen it - very disappointing. We did catch Jupiter and Saturn, though.

We’ve tried twice to see it- no luck. We are about to go scout out a possible place to go tonight to try one last time. We did see the space station though. That was cool.

We saw it, Friday night around 9pm near Flagstaff, AZ. We got a little away from the city and got a clear view. We could spot it with the naked eye and got a decent photo with my camera and a 50mm f/1.8 lens. Fun!

We were lucky to have one clear enough sky a couple of nights ago; that may have been our best (and maybe only) chance. Just for fun, I tracked down my photos of Hale-Bopp in 1987. I was able to take photographs from our loft, with plenty of time to set up the tripod, use the long zoom lens, etc. Of course I didn’t know how I did until the film was developed. That comet was around for a long time and very distinct!

@Marilyn, I think Hale-Bopp was in 1997, not 1987. Halley’s Comet was visible in 1986.

I downloaded the free app., Comet NEOWISE; finally Can see it tonight

Yes, sorry, I thought I was typing 1997, finger went to the wrong key. I definitely found the photos in my 1997 album.

Well, we finally have a relatively clear night and either we saw the comet, or we saw a faint fuzzy star with the fuzz pointing up. :wink: Nowhere near as obvious as a week ago, but I think there is a very light haze still in the sky. I did need binoculars to find it. I thought about dragging out my cheapo telescope, but didn’t think I would be able to find it to focus on. If it looks clear at dusk tomorrow, I might as well give it a try now that I know exactly where to look. Then admire the crescent moon and planets, who were all definitely out.

I also saw it, but only because I knew exactly where to look. I used a website that gives its position in the night sky relative to the big dipper and 2 stars below. It was so faint I could barely see it with binocs - it was just a very faint smudge. I never would have even noticed it if I didn’t know exactly where to look.
