Comfortable, easy-care shoes for men’s work-casual wear?

This will greatly limit the range of shoes that fit properly, since most shoes (of any kind) are made for narrow feet.

I attend a lot of conferences and I see these type of shoes everywhere. It’s the casual but formal style. Wide range of styles but some consider them dress sneakers?

Funny, these came up as a “deal of the day” on Amazon - not exactly the same but close!

I see them at almost every meeting/conference I attend. Even the formal presenters wear these.

Another trend is a lot fewer men wear ties - more sports coats and less formal suits.

My H may need to dress up more than your son and doesn’t mind spending a bit more, but he likes Ecco’s. He’s also had success with Johnston & Murphy - they come in wide widths, and look nice but are comfortable. Here’s an example:

My husband wore Clarks or Rockports on a day to day basis. But when he needed to wear a suit (for any reason), he had Johnston and Murphy shoes also. And they have lasted forever because they get worn maybe 5 times a year.

Rockport dress sports

Hush Puppies for men. They are very comfortable with good styles. Yes. Hugh puppies.

My husband wears Clark’s, which seem to fit your criteria. They’re appropriate for work and casual-but-not-sneakers-casual situations, go with jeans and khakis but not on the rare occasions when he needs to wear a suit or similar, and are comfortable (he walks around in them a lot). He replaces them every 2-3 years, so they last a long time. (I wear Clark’s, too, though not for work, and they do last forever.)

Big plus one for Ecco. I live in these shoes when traveling for business.

These are great ideas, thank you! I see several real possibilities. He doesn’t love shopping, but my birthday is this weekend so I’ll use that as leverage to get him to put some thought into it. I looked it up and we even have a Nordstrom Rack nearby. Hopefully he’ll have a new pair of shoes that he loves soon.

My wide footed husband loves his Skechers. After wearing expensive Sperry’s for about 30 years, he switched about a year ago. They are super lightweight. He ended up with a medium width (usually gets wide) and they fit great.

My husband has some dress shoes that are 20 years old. Even when he wore them more often, they just didn’t wear out like women’s shoes do.

My spouse has wide feet, too. There was a laceless Rockport leather shoe that he used to wear for dressier occasions, but the shoe he now wears all of the time is a Skechers that looks something like this one: Vapor Foam - Covert | SKECHERS. He wears them on the weekend and when we go to Europe he’ll walk in them for 7 miles a day and he’s happy.

Happy early birthday!!! Don’t neglect to make sure you get something this weekend, too!

If you do choose Sketchers, just make sure your husband is comfortable with their elevated sole. Some people (like me) find that very uncomfortable and unsteady. The lifted heel and the somewhat curved sole…very different.

Thanks for the links. White soles must be a return-to-office fashion trend. I don’t remember them prior to the pandemic.

Not sure if today’s shoes (other than Sketcher’s) run narrow. I think feet enlarge as we age and/or gain weight. It used to vex me finding narrow shoes. Now mediums, if the right style, work fine. Part of that widening happened during pregnancies and when I carried an extra 20 pounds. In recent years though I think running has played a factor.

Funny you mention this. I recently went shopping for new sneakers. So many of them had a very upturned front. I hated walking in them (felt awkward). Found some Skechers which did not (love them).

know lots of younger tech workers — all seem to wear more sneaker like shoes with khakis and jeans - all birds brand is very popular, can be washed and are stretchy for wiggle room - other more “fashion” sneaker brands too - see this look in la, san fran and nyc.

does he have a nordstrom near? The shoe salesman will be very helpful both with fit and age appropriate styles. 2nd the reco on eccos - my husband wears their “sneaker” looking ones and sees them on the younger guys too.

How “dressy” do they have to be? My DH is sometimes wearing his kiziks (not the ones with the big plastic backs) and he loves them.
Other alternative if it’s that challenging to get him nice shoes… get a new husband  (JK)
