Comfortable Elastic Waist Pull On Pants for Petite Older Woman

I’m trying to get some comfortable slacks for mom, as she has worn most of the ones she has until the elastic no longer functions and Christmas seems like a great time to get her a few more pairs. She likes darker colors (navy jeans and black) and is probably a size 10 petite. Would love suggestions on easy to care, machine wash with no ironing required pants. Thanks!

J.jill has several styles that might work for your mom, and most come in petites. They’re not cheap, but they’re good quality. Now, if your mom lives in Hawaii, I assume you’d want something lightweight. Some of these might be too heavy.

Thanks for the suggestion. They don’t have any stores in HI and I would have to pay postage to purchase and then again to return if she doesn’t like them or it doesn’t fit. :frowning: I prefer to try to get something that is free postage both directions (purchase and return or I can return in HI stores). She has mostly purchased pullup jeans from WalMart in the past and those pants are pretty unattractive.

Check out both Talbots and Land’s End. Both carry elastic waist pants and both carry petites. Additionally, both are having sales right now with up to 40% off.

Thanks–we do have a Sears store on Oahu, where I can return the slacks if she doesn’t like the Land’s End ones. I just bought her 4 pairs and will give them to her for the holidays. Yippee–done with shopping for her and no postage either direction! The nice Customer Service Rep said that she just bought a pair for her 90+ year old mom and the mom LOVES them! Did like getting 30% off too!

We don’t have a Talbot’s store on Oahu, as far as I Know.

My mom loves Alfred Dunner stuff.

Ruby Rd has nice clothing .

I have a pair from TravelSmith I really like. They were part of a set that included a sleeveless shell and a jacket. I wear all three pieces together and separately. They come in petite sizes, are very comfortable, and don’t wrinkle!

When you say elastic waist, I’m assuming you mean elastic at the real waistline??? I’m asking because those are really hard to find. The J Jill linked above all have below the waistline styles. I’ll be following this thread, because I want elastic waist pants with pockets, and can not seem to find them.

My mom likes the brigette pant from chicos. Yes I know this for a reason, she has shrunken so much everything swims on her. Something else that works is buying capris and they fit her like pants but don’t drag on the ground. Unfortunately pants are now hemmed with the assumption you’re 5 ft 6 and wearing heels.

The pants I got from TravelSmith have pockets, and are at the waistline.

@FlyMeToTheMoon My mother and aunt live in Alfred Dunner. They have elastic waist band and slit pockets. They also offer jackets and tops that coordinate. They come in Misses, Misses short, Petite and Petite short. I know JC Penny, Belk, Beals, Macy’s, Sears, and some online stores carry this line.

My mom wore the Land’s End pull on pants when she was going through rehab for a broken hip and they held up very well.

I second Alfred Dunner-they are designed specifically for a more mature figure. they make both a full elastic waist and a flat front/rear elastic and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a pair that doesn’t involve front slash pockets (typically they don’t have rear pockets). they are usually “proportioned short” instead of petite and have an inseam around 27". they definitely have a much higher rise than “trendy” brands. they come in every color of the rainbow and always have coordinating tops…think garanimals for grownups.

and they wear like iron. easy care, wrinkle free and will stand up to the harshest industrial laundry.

most department stores will have them.

Another vote for Alfred Dunner

This is why I love CC… I’ve never even heard of Alfred Dunner pants.

Another vote for Alfred Dunner. My 90 year old 5’ tall mother loves them.

Thanks. Looks like Alfred Dunner slacks I’ve seen on Macy’s are polyester. In hot HI, cotton is preferred so am hoping the cotton Land’s End slacks are a hit with mom.

My first job was putting clothes away in an independent clothes store, I seemed to always get stuck in the alfred dunner department. …for a teenager that was awful torture instead of getting the teen section. Thanks for the blast from the past, hadn’t thought of that in 30+ years.

HIMom, see if your Macy’s or Nordstrom (or Neiman or Off 5th) have any Eileen Fisher pants on sale. The fabrics are gorgeous and lightweight, even if they are synthetics. EF uses lots of natural fibers in her clothing, for example, these are machine-washable silk:

And linen:

These are just a few styles, but EF has many more.
