Comical situation revealed by my transcript

I thought others might get a kick out of this as well. During the application process, there was a question about whether I had ever been placed on probation by my university and I had checked no but later realized after viewing my transcripts that I had.

I remembered for the first time in several years a situation that occurred when I was a teenager. My wife and I were living in the dorms and ran into financial trouble. Our leases at the dorms were rather more expensive than a counterpart lease with a local landlord. We went through the official channels to get our contracts ended early, citing the uniqueness of the situation (unable to sublet dorm rooms, financial peril, coed couple occupying a dorm room) but it was to no avail. However, we were told that if a couple were to be kicked out of the dorms due to disciplinary reasons, they would receive the remainder of rent for the year. We searched the dorm handbook for disciplinary infractions that were in themselves innocuous. We spent the next hour going to the resident advisors and lighting candles in their rooms, turning on toasters, hanging posters from the ceiling and other mischief. The resident advisors from across the entire building wrote up ‘incident reports’ for each act and after the tally was in, we had been written up two dozen times.

True to their word, we were kicked out of the dorms and received our rent for the unused months. We even became prizes in future scavenger hunts within the dorms. The repercussions for this incident were that we were placed on disciplinary probation (meaning we could not get arrested on university property for one year).

My wife and I were able to graduate college and we have an impeccable rental history. I hadn’t thought about this in a long time but it seems as though I may now have to lay this out in an accompanying document with my applications.

LOL. What a story!

Good luck with the grad school applications!

Crazy plot to get out of dorm life! :)
