Coming Home

Thanks momlove, it’s been a crazy Christmas. Found a flight out, found a taxi that said they could pick him up. About 45 minutes before the flight was to leave taxi still wasn’t there. Son was TERRIBLY disappointed. Rescheduled for the first flight out on Saturday morning, couldn’t find a taxi or a shuttle who would pick him up in time. Rescheduled again for later Saturday and think we have transportation arranged. Keep fingers crossed that we will have Christmas Saturday evening! I hope everyone had a WONDERFUL Christmas!

srw,
That is very disconcerting. Please let us know when he’s in, and I hope your belated Christmas is wonderful.

srw, please let us know when he finally makes it!

Husband just left to pick him up, his plane should be in in an hour! The tree and presents are waiting for us all to have our Christmas! I really appreciate all of the support and have a new view of family togetherness. It is truly precious.

srw - belated Merry Christmas, enjoy your time with your family.

srw, thanks for that update. I hope all can enjoy Christmas now on F.S.T. (family subjective time), safe and sound together. Maybe he’ll sing his choir part for you as a solo…?

What a story! It will never be this hard again, let’s hope!

My younger D is on a quarter schedule so she has been home for a little bit- I actually didn’t get to see her at Christmas, cause she went down to Portland to stay with her sister, who is working through Christmas, as well as house sitting for a teacher who has a dog and a cat.
( my oldest was here last weekend- and will be back up this weekend for my mothers memorial-her sister is keeping her company)

They were told that they probably wouldn’t even see the cat, as she was very shy, but shortly after my husband got down there, the cat was on his lap purring up a storm ;).
Youngest has fallen in love with the dog- ( ours is very old and this lab is about 6mo), and threatened to bring her home.
( which would probably put a crimp in her sisters house sitting jobs)

S2 arrived home from his semester abroad at 7pm last night. The only travel delay was the last leg of his flight from DC to chicago. He was gone 5 months! it feels so good to have him home.

srw…sounds like your family will have a wonderful Boxing Day celebration. Hope the end of the “long journey” is really just around the corner.

srw, what a story! I am so glad that your family is reunited again (or will be very soon!).

S2 came home from college on 12/18. I can sense that he has some of the “ugh, how boring!” about being at home again, which I always had when I came home for college vacations, too. He goes back the weekend of the 9th-10th. HS gf (who moved to another state) flies in week after next. The Thanksgiving Turkey Drop apparently didn’t happen!

Seems like S’s vacation just started, and he is on his way back to school tomorrow…
New Year’s Eve plans include taking him to the airport…

Next year, his classes start on Jan. 3, can’t get much closer to Christmas than that. I wonder if anyone chooses a college using the criteria of how long the winter break is?

KC…you know where my daughter goes to school. She has been home since Dec 11, but returns on Sat…Jan 2. Classes start on the 4th.

I wish schools would NOT have kids returning for classes on the busiest and MOST EXPENSIVE travel weekends of the year.

Very sad here. Last night we saw D off at the airport to go to her SA in Madrid. She emailed that she arrived safely about 15 min. ago. Yesterday was also 1 year that our beloved dog died. I can’t wait until D returns on July 5.

I agree with Thumper. She left yesterday because any later was at least $500 more. She is satying w/family, so will have a great NY Eve.

S1 left on Sunday, spent the night with friends in NYC, and on Monday went back to DC so he could work on Tuesday.

S2 left this afternoon. He says we’re boring and there’s nothing to do in our town. He can’t wait to get back to school and go snowboarding.

Sigh. Lots to clean up. It’s sad that they’re gone, but I’m happy to have my house quiet again.

S1 left on Tues. for NYC with friends for New Year’s. He returns Jan.1 and leaves here Jan. 2 on a 11 hr. trek back to FL. He won’t get another long break for awhile. Don’t know exactly when we’ll see him again after this trip.

Today is S2’s birthday! He’s 20. We’re taking him out to dinner tonight. He requested steak. Guess he doesn’t get that at college, lol. He came home on the 17th. Classes resume on Jan. 11.

D1 has been home since before Thanksgiving because of study abroad. I thought we would be tired of each other by now, but it’s not the case. I took 2 weeks off for xmas and new year. We have been watching movies, shopping, just basically hanging out. She goes back in 2 weeks, but I leave on a business trip in one week. If she is lucky to get an internship in NYC this summer then this will be the last time she is home for a long period of time.

my son is on quarters, too…so he is leaving tomorrow morning to go to boston, spend new years with friends, then head off–his classes start on the 4th, too.

it’s been an emotional day for everyone…last long break at home–graduation and hopefully employment…it’s a bit exciting and worrisome for everyone.

cheers to all as we send out young 'uns on their way back to their “homes”

My son is en route home from his semester abroad in Budapest. It has been a nerve-wracking day as he’s flying on NWA via Amsterdam. I’m assuming he made his connections and the computer tracking system says the plane I hope he’s on has landed in the USA. Due to delays in security screening in Amsterdam, however, I’m not sure he’ll make his connection home. I’m hopeful that he’ll have time to call us if he does make his connection–he’ll have plenty of time to call if he misses it!!

I’m so excited to see him!

martha,

Please keep us updated. Kids in the air are safe, but we worry anyhow. And it gets even more stressful if the tracker suddenly says unknown. Hang in there.

My son arrived home safely! He never called so we weren’t sure if he got onto his last flight. A very helpful woman at NWA told me they scanned his ticket and he was on the plane! What a relief to have him home.
