Coming off of Waitlist?

<p>Dear Emory Community:</p>

<p>Has anyone come off of the waitlist? We’re curious about this, having a waitlist D. Or do they do these things all at once, after May 1, if they need to at all?</p>

<p>i assume that they won’t know how many are coming until after may 1st. i wouldn’t expect that any would be coming off the list since no one came off last year. you never know though.</p>

<p>If it’s any consolation my D was accepted but won’t be going so there’s at least one place open!!!</p>

<p>Good luck to your daughter… I hope she gets off the wait list. The Emory website has this information that might be useful to you (I highlighted a passage that I thought might be of interest). Also, for what it’s worth, there were no students taken off the wait list from last year, although it varies from year to year.</p>

<p>Also, regarding Boojum’s comment, since yield rate suggests that the majority of most accepted students (at most colleges/universities) DECLINE acceptance, the decline by Boojum’s daughter is already factored in, and thus it does not hold that one student’s decline will translate into an open admission slot.</p>

<p>I’m kinda worried because supposedly we should get periodic e-mails from them and I have yet to hear anything. I accepted my position on the wait-list and since then I haven’t gotten an e-mail or anything.</p>

<p>^ if you’re the least bit worried, give them a call. Seriously, it never ever hurts to ask!</p>

<p>In my honest opinion, I highly doubt that Emory will go to their waitlist for the '11 incoming class. Last year, I was waitlisted at Wash U, Emory, and Carnegie Mellon, none of which took people off of their waitlists. From what I hear, this is the most competitive year for college admissions, even more so than last year. Id hate to put doubt in any of your hopes, but it is better to get used to the schools you are actually in then to count on getting in your waitlists. Like someone mentioned above, call their office. I had already sent in another essay and an additional teacher’s recommendation before I called the admissions office to hear that they were not going to the wait list at all.</p>

<p>Daughter got a wonderful email, complete with someone who was pulled in off waitlist, trying to keep her hopes alive at Emory. She’s put her deposit in at W&M and I am hoping if anyone calls her off a waitlist, she’ll decline.</p>

<p>just b/c your D doesn’t accept a spot at emory doen’t mean that there is a spot open…you think that all the spots that are left open by people who do not matriculate are left to waitlisters? How does that explain no one getting off the WL last year? Emory prepares for about a 30% matriculation…if it is less than that they will accept a few people…honestly WL chances for anybody at a school like emory are slim to none, considering the percentage accepted off the WL in recent years</p>

<p>Has anyone heard that Emory may turn to the wait list, since their yield is low compared to last year and the number of acceptances was reduced, due to last year’s large class?</p>

<p>i haven’t heard that. i also don’t think that anyone can report the yeild rate since the deadline hasn’t passed for the accepted people to decide if they are coming. wait it out but don’t be too optomistic.</p>

<p>well, if it’s true, this is good news they’re using the waitlist. now let’s just hope we get off.</p>

<p>Daughter got three emails from waitlist department today…all stating they wouldn’t make any waitlist decisions for a few more days, at least. And should wrap up the waitlist by June 1st</p>

<p>I just got a call about 10 minutes ago, i got accepted from the waitlist.</p>

I didn’t really care to list all my extracurriculars, not anything major more, but there are some more.</p>

<p>My stats are pretty ****ty(I know), I wasn’t truly expecting to getting off the wait list.
My GPA SUXXORS! I slacked off in school for a while, but I am in International Baccalaureate so that maybe helped.</p>

<p>I think my ACT was more appealing:
36 Science (27 first time)
35 Math
33 Reading (32 first time)
30 English (second time 29)
basically 31 -> 33.</p>

i had thrown down 800 for GT (deposit and housing). but i think i can get about half of that back.</p>

<p>I’m not 100% sure that I’m going to Emory, I just need a few days to look over my options.</p>
